Ahead of the full release of Nelcorpo, Dissonant is thrilled to be sharing the first taste of Re-UP’s debut album with this three-track single. The whole project is a continuation of a relationship that reaches back to 2010, when the celebrated Italian duo made up of Leo and Omar first collaborated with Marc Antona on The Owl EP.
For this sample record, three powerful tracks have been selected that reveal what an exciting, highly detailed listening experience the full album will be. There is of course a club-friendly thrust to all the cuts, as you would expect from this pair of producers, but there are lots of other moods at work which reveal themselves through the course of the tracks.
From the start “The mole” paints a vivid picture of crooked, rusted textures, using layers of rough and metallic found-sounds to whisk the listener away into their dense, percussive headspace. “6AM” equally has a rich sound world to get lost in, using a bed of forest textures as a comfortable backdrop in contrast to the piercing impact of the lead synth. On the strength of these three tracks, the album holds much promise as a landmark release for both Re-UP and Dissonant. “Two in a Row” meanwhile takes its time in building up the tension, working with a locomotive urgency and yet maintaining a voluptuous appeal to the rhythm section of the track.

“Concrethereal” is of course the perfect starting point with its fractious rhythm and wistful washes of melody, and from there “Aju Paraplu” takes hold to lock you into the deep-reaching 4/4 pulse of Re-UP. Moving gracefully between melodic warmth and sparse percussive workouts, the mix never rests for too long in one place, teasing your emotions between the soothing swell of “Gominola” and the playful crunch of “6 AM”, reaching on to the techno thrust of “The Mole” and winding up in the cerebral delights of “Tribute” before finishing with the blissful serenity of “Extended”.
With a unified sound that allows the tracks to sit together so naturally, the mixed edition of Nelcorpo represents the ideal way for the private listener to immerse themselves in the sound world of Re-UP. As the graceful and elegant moments merge with the dark and enchanting tones, the mind can delight just as much as the feet, and so to keep this music solely in the hands of DJs would not be right. With this mix, Nelcorpo can be dived into anywhere and everywhere, which is no less than music this special deserves.
