He enjoyed hugely popular residencies in the early eighties at Wigan Pier and Manchester's majorly influential Legend. He was a pioneer of mixing in the UK and in 1983 he became the first ‘dance music’ DJ hired for a regular weekly session at Manchester's now legendary Hacienda club. Greg was instrumental in breaking the new electronic, post-disco records coming out of New York, a sound he has dubbed ‘Electro-Funk’. In 2003 he set up his own website www.electrofunkroots.co.uk to document this crucial era in the evolution of dance culture and, having retired from DJ work at the end of 1983, Greg returned to spinning tunes two decades later, receiving plaudits for his red-hot appearances at renowned nights including Electric Chair, Horse Meat Disco, Fabric, Back To Basics, Ministry Of Sound, Asylum, Melting Pot and the Sub Club, to name but a few. Before long he was picking up an ever increasing amount of bookings throughout Europe and, more recently, worldwide. Other highlights for Greg include being the first DJ to mix live on British TV (The Tube in 1983), putting together the first UK radio mixes of their type for Piccadilly 261 in Manchester (beginning 1982) and showing a certain Norman Cook, then a young aspiring DJ called Quentin, how to scratch (Dec ’83). DJ Deep is known as one of the most revered members of the French house scene - he has made it his duty to share "true to its roots" house and techno with a growing global audience. As a member of the Respect roster of artists, his Respect is Burning parties and CD series have kept listeners on the pulse of the hot French house scene for many years. DJ Deep started DJing about 20 years ago. At the time house music was definitely an underground movement in its infancy and the French scene was only just beginning to develop. Laurent Garnier gave DJ Deep his “first chance” to DJ, first at club Boy in Paris for the Oz parties, then at club Le Palace for the Zoo parties. At the same time, DJ Deep started to host his radio show on radio FG 98.2, everyday from noon to 2 PM. A year afterwards, he invited his friends, DJ Gregory and DJ Alex from Tokyo, to join him - the show was then named “A Deep Groove”. It became the first port of call to hear everything from Mos Def to Jeff Mills, with a true passion for real deep underground house music. With releases from Tresor to Deeply Rooted, DJ Deep has carved out a stellar reputation as a producer as well as a selector. Despite his young age, Weisemann has been DJing since 1997. His musical influences ranges from Classic, Soundtracks, Soul and Jazz, Deep House and Dub to his beloved Detroit Techno and US House. As a producer, his music draws deeply on the legacy of Chicago and Detroit, yet somehow manages to end up sounding as fresh as a daisy - records such as 'Vibe' and 'Slices' are house music that is half atmosphere and half beats, and not afraid to take its sweet time to lull the floor with their charms. A self-taught musician who plays piano, acoustic guitar and percussion, Weisemann also composes jazz and soundtracks - traditions which also inform his house records no doubt, many of which you can find on Meanwhile, House Café Music, Apple Pips, Kann, a.r.t.less, Wandering, Liebe*Detail, Real Soon, Styrax Leaves, Essays, Freund Der Familie, Fauxpas Musik, Echocord, Delsin, Telrae, Just Another Beat and especially Mojuba, where Weisemann's music slots together with friends Nick Solé and Oracy to form a distinct, and highly collectible, label sound. Patrice Bäumel is an internationally renowned dj and producer currently living in Amsterdam. He is a long-running resident dj at Trouw Amsterdam, one of Europe’s leading venues for electronic music, running his “Black Magic” and “HiFi” nights at the club. Bäumel infuses his productions and dj sets with lots of energy and a sense of adventure, creating a sound that is satisfies the mind as well as the body. He calls it “techno music for grown-ups”. Trademark productions like “Roar”, “Mike Tyson” or, more recently, “The Woods” are perfect examples of that philosophy. Bäumel has worked with a number of outstanding labels like Get Physical, K7, Systematic, Diynamic, Trouw and Turbo and has big releases coming up in 2014 for Kompakt and My Favorite Robot. Bäumel is also involved in several crossover projects involving classical music, such as his rendition of Steve Reich's “Drumming” at the Concertgebouw during ADE in 2013 or his “Yellow Lounge” residency at Trouw. Rising concern Dan Shake has achieved what no other has in over a decade: with his debut release in the music world, he has become the very first producer without a Detroit heritage or residency to land a release on Moodymann's prestigious record label Mahogani Music. Based in London, the former Leeds student secured the feat in a charmingly anachronistic fashion: having just watched Kenny Dixon Jr perform alongside the 3 Chairs at Dimensions Festival, Dan simply handed over a demo CD with a collection of unreleased tracks. Moodymann was hooked almost instantly, taking the first plunge on welcoming an outsider into his tight-knit crew of Detroit strong artists. Citing influence from the layered percussive rhythms of Afrobeat pioneers such as Tony Allen and Fela Kuti, the soul-drenched sampling of J Dilla and the kind of dark, dense grooves laid out by contemporary producers such as Flying Lotus and Motor City Drum Ensemble, Dan's situation in winding up on a label renowned for encompassing all those traits is obviously a blessing for the young producer.
