Future Entertainment presents the return of The Hot Barbeque, Australia’s most spectacular open air summer music experience.
Hot Barbeque burst onto the Melbourne scene in 2008 providing a unique and refreshing alternative to the myriad of existing events on the Australian festival calendar.
Hosted at the majestic location, Birrarung Marr, Hot Barbeque is a melting pot of sounds representing what’s true and great about our city, there’s simply no better place to pull up some grass on a Summer’s day!

The Herd [Aust]
The Herd formed in 2000 when the collective behind the independent Sydney-based record label Elefant Traks and resulted in a wildly diverse 18-track self-titled album that featured the triple j hit ‘Scallops’. February 2003 saw their follow-up album An Elefant Never Forgets and had just released their first single: the controversially titled ‘Burn Down The Parliament’. The second single, ‘77%’, immediately sparked controversy with print, electronic media and talkback radio hosts alarmed at its use of language and its forthright nature. Their next release, The Sun Never Sets. Featured radio hits like ‘We Can’t Hear You’ and ‘Unpredictable’ amongst a diverse range of tracks which displayed much refined song-writing and production, the album included a version of the Redgum classic ‘I Was Only 19’. The album, Summerland, was completed in early 2008, and features the first single ‘The King is Dead’. The Herd have a reputation as one of the country’s best live acts. An unconventional set-up, they perform with two MCs, two singers, an acoustic and an electric guitar, bass, piano accordion, clarinet, laptops and MPC.

Sporting a Banquet-sized remix portfolio, Boys Noize promises a captivating performance, particularly after the success of his recently released album, Oi, Oi, Oi. Hot property throughout Europe, he has reworked everyone from Bloc Party to Sebastian Tellier to Justice, Gonzales and Marilyn Manson and his music is no stranger to the playlists of Erol Alkan and Soulwax. The Galvatrons [Aust]
The Galvatrons are four maverick, interstellar transformers from a future vortex where Gary Numan and Stan Bush are canonized and life is a euphoric, synthtracked montage of disco fist-pumping, 80s prom night pashes and Hollywood endings for bespectacled misfits. Their set full of phenomenal, hook-laden singles, on-stage dynamism, and virtuosic musicianship has seen them tour the East Coast as the supporting act for homegrown heroes You Am I and Shihad as well as making now infamous Big Day Out and Meredith appearances. DJ Nu Mark (Jurassic 5) [USA]
Nu-Mark began DJing as a teenager and over the course of the last two decades, he has amassed a collection of over 35,000 records and refined his technical skills and performance style to the point where he is widely recognized as one of the key figures in the late-90s DJ explosion. Recognized for his membership in the gold selling group Jurassic 5, Nu-Mark is best known for his production on the raw anthem “What’s Golden” and the smooth and soulful “Work It Out,” featuring Dave Matthews. Nu-Mark is responsible for half of the production of Jurassic 5’s entire body of work. Terms like legend and godfather are often misused when only describing the merely popular but for a man like Carl Craig they are entirely relevant and undeniably deserved.Serving his apprenticeship with Juan Atkins and Derrick May, then pioneers of the original Detroit sound, Carl Craig has gone on to become one of the most experimental and musically diverse producers and DJs on the planet. From the late eighties to the present day Carl has continued to invent and lay waste to genre after genre. As Paperclip People he showcased the ever evolving sound of Detroit, as Innerzone Orchestra he released the breakbeat classic "Bug in the Bassbin" which everyone from 4 Hero to Goldie will immediately cite as a major influence in the birth of UK drum and bass and under his own name he has produced some of the most forward thinking, compositionally stunning music ever released. Platinum Pied Pipers [USA]
The PPP are a two-man dynamic musical duo with an essential new twist on modern hip hop and soul. Producers Waajeed (a founding member of Slum Village) and musical sidekick Saadiq have worked hard for two years releasing 12” singles, contributing to the Rewind series and performing several highly talked-about live shows while working on their debut album “Triple P”. Waajeed, a self-taught musician who feels right at home in front of his MPC 2000, is known for his gritty Detroit hip hop style. Whereas Saadiq, a master keyboard and guitar player, brought up under the tutelage of world-renowned songwriter Barrett Strong (most known for his work with Motown artist Marvin Gaye), brings the element of improvisational live instrumentation to PPP’s sound. Phrase [Melbourne]
Harley Webster better known as Phrase-is an Australian hip hop
MC, originating from Melbourne, Victoria. Phrase began to piece together an album with producers Daniel Merriweather and J-Skub (Jan Skubiszewki), while working part-time for the Reach Youth foundation,an organization that Phrase credits with helping him overcome behavioral problems he had in his mid-teens.The album, Talk with Force was picked up for national release by Universal Music Australia in 2005. Three singles were released from this album, "Here Now" featuring Mystro, "Catch Phrase" featuring Daniel Merriweather, and "Hold On" featuring labelmate Max White.
Phrase is currently working on his next album, to be titled Burn It Down which will feature production from J-Skub, M-Phazes, and Jase, and guest appearances from Daniel Merriweather, Jackson Jackson, Bliss n Eso, Illy, Kram, Wendy Matthews and Max White. The first single off the album, "Face It" features Ian Kenny from alternative rock band Karnivool and was used in the marketing campaign for the Australian release of Halo 3
