A couple of months down the road we’re still buzzing from the Underground Resistance: Timeline gig (it was sooooo good) and now Picnic and Charades are bringing another member of the UR clan down into the party-womb of The Imperial Hotel as well as welcoming back an Aussie house and techno maestro who’s been dominating Europe:
DJ JOHN COLLINS (UNDERGROUND RESISTANCE)
From his beginnings as a resident at legendary Detroit club Cheeks in 1986 (he was joined there by one Jeff Mills a year later) to hosting his revered show live from the Warehouse Nightclub on WJLB FM in the ‘90s and championing the music of artists like Mike Banks and Kevin Saunderson, Collins has been at the heart of the Motor City’s underground house and techno scene since genesis. He’s worn just about every hat you can wear - producer, DJ, label exec, manager, promoter, booking agent - and he’s donned more than half of those as a member of the Underground Resistance family. We’re in for another massive Detroit techno treat, as legit as it gets.
FRANCIS INFERNO ORCHESTRA (VOYEURHYTHM)
It’s been a ridiculously big couple of years for our Melburnian friend Griffin James AKA FIO AKA Deepthroat. After paving the way to greatness with a string of disco-tinged house records on labels like Kolour Recordings, Sleazy Beats and Melbourne Deepcast, Griff branched out in a number of different musical flavours, from the gritty to the deep to the dark. Now sitting pretty as a London resident, 2014 saw the release of his debut LP “A New Way of Living” on the exceptional Voyeurhythm, a sublime 12-inch on Let’s Play House and his debut set at Berghain/Panorama Bar. We’re stoked to have one of our country’s most awesome dance exports coming back to our shores and making us dance again!
