Parallel Dimensions: 1st Birthday Bash with A Guy Called Gerald

  • SURPRISES LIE AROUND EVERY CORNER; EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. +++ AFTERPARTY AT SECRET LOCATION UNTIL 10AM +++ Who has the stamina to be the 'Last Man Standing?' This is the time for resilience; have you got what it takes? After our mammoth session for the birthday celebration at Lakota with A Guy Called Gerald and Victor Simonelli, the rave won't stop - it is time to let loose! Come down with us to a secret underground location in the heart of Bristol which will be revealed on the night. (Limited tickets available due to the intimacy of the venue.) Birthdays call for an extra-special celebration. You can’t get more extra-special than the line up we have put together as a toast to our first year promoting parties in Bristol. Having previously brought 808 State, Graeme Park and Copyright to the West Country, we have secured the services of two more stone cold legends – Mancunian acid house pioneer A GUY CALLED GERALD, and New York 80s/90s deep-house heavyweight VICTOR SIMONELLI. With the line-up being completed by a strong local line-up – including the city’s own veteran house hero, Deli G, rising tribal house/techno fusionists Bacchus, and the resident DJs from Studio 94 and Empathy – this party looks set to be another belter. A Guy Called Gerald should need little introduction. A former breakdancer and footworker turned acid house producer, he was one of the founder members of 808 State and had a hand in producing the act’s seminal 1988 set, Newbuild. His stint as a member was short-lived, though, as he quickly went solo to produce one of the greatest house records of all time, the peerless “Voodoo Ray”. It dominated dancefloors in the summer of ‘88, rocketed up the charts, and inspired a whole generation of British DJs to turn to music production independently. Since then, Gerald Simpson has continued to push things forward, turning his hand to drum & bass, techno, deep house and electronic jazz, recording a string of superb albums for labels including CBS, Studio !K7 and Laboratory Instinct. For Parallel Dimensions, he’ll be playing a rare live set, jamming out acid and techno in the legendary surroundings of Lakota. He’ll be joined in the main room by local duo Bacchus, and the our very own residents. Room Two: Hosted by Studio 94’s fast-rising Boogie Nights party, is being headlined by another legend, New York house DJ/producer Victor Simonelli. A prolific producer since the turn of the 1990s, Simonelli has been responsible for some of the best house music to come out of New York, recording for a dizzying array of labels (including Nu Groove, Tribal America, Fourth Floor, Sub-Urban, UMM, King Street Sounds, Vibe and Playtime), under a similarly wide range of aliases (Groove Committee, Cloud 9, Solution). The Brooklyn native is a rare visitor to these shores, so his appearance at Parallel Dimensions should not be missed. He’ll be joined in room two by Parallel Dimensions regular Deli G (a house, garage and disco player on the Bristol scene since the 1980s), and the Studio 94 residents. Room 3: Hosted by long-running Bristol clubbing institution Empathy. For the best part of 15 years, the Empathy crew has been joining the dots between tech-house, progressive house, deep house and techno, throwing parties at a wide range of Bristol venues (including Dojo, Timbuk2 and Bar Latino). They’ll be bringing a little of that flavour to Parallel Dimensions’ first birthday, turning Lakota’s intimate third room into a sweaty, heads-down dance. Room 4 [The Loft]: Hosted by WERK! Their ethos is simple - For clubbers, by clubbers. Dubbed as “proper clubbing” by the Guardian, with an impressive history of headline DJ bookings; WERK can rightly boast about their events. To make the party even more magical, Lakota will be dressed in immersive décor throughout, and interactive performers will roam the club’s corridors, rooms, bars and outside spaces. Parallel Dimensions are asking clubbers to come dressed in “second summer of love rave attire”, to truly get into the retro-futurist party spirit. As Parallel Dimensions founder Laila McKenzie says: “Expect the unexpected!” With the buzz still live from our party with 808 State; we offer to you an invitation to celebrate with us. We want to ensure that EVERYONE is able to join in the festivities, we have slashed our ticket prices as a one time only offer to allow yourself to be fully submerged into house music's heritage. #Educate. #Celebrate. ± 80's & 90's Rave-Attire Encouraged ± KICKERS // PUFFA JACKETS // HOODED T-SHIRTS // GLOWSTICKS // HIGH PONY TAILS // CROP TOPS // WHITE GLOVES // DUNGAREE's // TIE-DIE T-SHIRTS // WHISTLES // FLORESCENT SCRUNCHY's // CRAZY SUNGLASSES // BRIGHT BANDANA's // WACKY HAIRBANDS // OVERSIZED ACID-WASH SHIRTS // JELLY SHOES // WHITE SPORTS SOCKS // ACID SMILEYS // SHELL-SUIT JACKETS.
