  • Jane Fitz is a DJ, promoter and music journalist from east London. After making tapes and DJing at parties while still at school, she graduated to promoting her first parties when she was 21. Shake It Baby Shake It were ramshackle nights mixing soul, funk, beats and house, in equally ramshackle Camden studios in the early 90s. A few years later Jane moved to Hong Kong, where she learnt to beatmatch on her flatmate's decks and became a resident at the legendary Robot parties, playing underground house 12 stories above the city. At the tail-end of the 90s Jane returned to London and, daunted by the prospect of starting over, started up Peg, a word-of-mouth underground house party that travelled across London's warehouses, recording studios, pubs, clubs, basements and rooftops for 10 years. While London fell out of, then back in love with house music, Peg stayed true to underground deep house when no other promoter would touch it. The party's reputation was built on its welcoming crowd and quality line-ups; guests included, Charles Webster, Chris Duckenfield, Brothers Vibe, Jimpster, Brawther, Jitterbug and Miles Sagnia – alongside the real heroes, the unknown and upcoming djs that Peg always championed. There were also away-days to parties around the UK, in clubs, fields and barns, and Peg's unforgettable summer excursions to Provence (Peg In The Sun). On radio Jane held a regular slot on early internet station Groovetech, as well as on London pirate stations House FM and Unknown FM. Her long-running Monday night show on radio myhouseyourhouse.net has set a benchmark for obscure deep underground house, often following a unique, pitched-down house sound, or featuring exclusive guest mixes from DJs such as Scott Grooves, Keith Worthy, Hakim Murphy, Scott Ferguson, Ethyl, Steven Tang, Ernie, DJ Spider, Will Azada and Serendipity. Jane even broadcasts an annual show from the Movement festival in Detroit. Jane's bookings have always been down to her DJing skills alone, having yet to release any productions - an impressive feat considering today's producer-led bookings and line-ups. In the past couple of years alone Jane has DJed at parties for both Brothers' Vibe's Mixx and Paris' MyLoveIsUnderground labels, as well as playing in Berlin, Belgrade, Bratislava, Detroit, New York and Chicago. There was a return visit to mini-festival Freeroration, a Saturday night headline and memorable sunrise slot at Bulgaria’s Meadows in the Mountains festival (she is now resident at both of these festivals), and outings to London's Kit, Manchester's Bohemian Grove, Detroit’s TV Lounge, New York’s National Underground and Birmingham institution Below. And of course Jane also made her debut at London's Fabric. Over the years her reputation as a guest DJ has been earned playing respected underground parties and clubs such as Secretsundaze, DiY, Wiggle, Scuba, Kiss Me Again, Arthouse, Below, Northern Purpose, Delete, Berlin's Watergate and Horst, and at parties and festivals across Asia, Europe, the US and UK. Jane has also recently launched a new seasonal party in London with Jade Seatle, called NIGHT MOVES. Desperate to do something different - the vibe of NIGHT MOVES is democratic - there are no set times, no guest list, no music policy - just the two residents and a guest who has never played in London before, all playing together all night long. Their first party featured Jenifa Mayanja, the second, Hakim Murphy, the third DJ Spider, and the fourth 2DeepSoul live. Jane's mixes and podcasts are in constant demand - recent adventures include exclusive mixes for Fabric's blog, Deep Explorer, Bohemian Grove, Patrice Scott's radio show and the respected Louche, Northern Purpose and Underlying Form podcasts. She is also lining up her first releases with studio partner Dom Ahtuam aka Dlay (Sud Up Recordings), the pair producing under the name Invisible Menders. A remix for Midnight Social Recordings was out in March, their first own-label vinyl releases are coming soon.
