  • The Fox is proud to present electronic maestro Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails’ fame, plus support by local talents Phil Western, Davachi/Smith, and DJ Pop Drones. ALESSANDRO CORTINI Best known as the lead electronics performer in the legendary Nine Inch Nails and How To Destroy Angels, Alessandro Cortini has carved out a respected space for himself as a solo artist as well, releasing acclaimed work under his own name and the moniker Sonoio on Important and Hospital Records over the years. Recognized as one of the pre-eminent Buchla instrumentalists in North America, Cortini is a master of crafting soundscapes with everything from synths to delay pedals to field recordings and ambient noise. The results are beautiful, evocative, highly unusual, and soaked in atmosphere, making for essential listening for anyone who can’t get enough of classic material by Eno or AFX and are bored with cheap imitations. You do not want to miss Cortini’s must-see live set. soundcloud.com/alessandrocortini PHIL WESTERN Universally recognized for his collaborations with cEvin Key in Download and PlatEAU, Vancouver’s Phil Western has earned himself a respectable niche in the world of music. Exploring the chilled-out modes of electronic music from dub to ambient to techno, and even incorporating the psychedelic atmospheres associated with space rock, Western likes to leave no stone unturned when expanding the range of his musical tastes and abilities. soundcloud.com/phillipwestern DAVACHI/SMITH Davachi/Smith is the collaborative musical venture of Sarah Davachi and Richard Smith. Recognized as an authority on vintage musical electronics, Richard Smith is an electronics technician and musician with extensive experience rebuilding high-end studio electronic systems by Buchla, Moog, ARP, Roland, Korg, and EMS. Over the last decade, Smith has amassed one of the most comprehensive collections of Buchla electronics, many of which have been featured in the recordings of his group, Von Bingen, among others. Sarah Davachi holds an MFA in electronic music and recording media from Mills College in Oakland, California, and has completed composer residences at The Banff Centre for the Arts, Alberta; STEIM, Amsterdam; EMS, Stockholm; and WORM, Rotterdam. She has released music with Full Spectrum Records, Important Records, and Students of Decay, and her writings on experimental music have been published in journals by the University of Victoria and the University of Huddersfield. Together, Davachi and Smith seek to disclose the sounds of electronic instruments from a bygone era in analog synthesis. soundcloud.com/sarahdavachi/davachismith-collaboration-with-richard-smith-live-91814-nff14 PLUS DJ POP DRONES Vancouver’s Mark Richardson, host of CiTR’s Pop Drones weekly, unearths the depths of contemporary cassette and vinyl underground, ranging from DIY bedroom-pop and garage rock all the way to harsh noise and, of course, drone. planobsolete.blogspot.ca Grab your tickets online at: http://www.foxcabaret.com/event/alessandro-cortini-with-phil-western-and-davachi-smith/ $14 Thursday, April 23rd 8:00PM-1:00AM Fox Cabaret 2321 Main St.
