WetMusik All-Stars present Robot Samba, Friday 24th June. Back for the first dance floor work-out in 10 months, this one sees a return to the vaults, Tresor style, where the infamous Paranoid series took place nearly a decade ago. With Platform One’s new plush sound and surroundings, Melbourne’s favourite techno posse are back to celebrate The Best of WetMusik Vol. 1 compilation, marking 25 releases for the label, and launching their new funkier imprint Robot Samba.
Special guest Jorge Watts (Loop Killaz/Adelaide), joins the eclectic audio menu featuring Boogs, Simon Coyle, Ben Cromack and Simon Digby, plus in the elektrobootycrackhouse arena Damian Laird, Richie Rich, Emily Clarke, Mike Hunt and Cecille.
Jorge Watts has produced under a number of different monikers such as Loop Killaz, Tokyo 3, Cycloid, Azteckid and Early Species, and released on a plethora of labels including WetMusik, Undefined, Vast, Thrill Seekers, Liquid House Division, Global Trax and SubSounds. Jorge has been a vital ingredient in Adelaide’s burgeoning club scene for well over a decade and taken his rhythm shaking sound round the world. Dubbed “the golden boy” by the likes of Cajmere and Rush, during a recent stint in Chicago, Watts picked up a string of DJ, remix and release work, including the Spin Me Round and Yazz - Don’t Go bootlegs while managing the windy city’s legendary Supreme Records. His debut WetMusik release Down Underground was licensed for Misstress Barbara and DJ Misjah mix CDs, and sat firmly in Carl Cox’s Top 10 for a number of weeks. Surprisingly, Watts has slipped under the Melbourne radar for years and Robot Samba will be his first ever performance in Melbourne.
The Best of WetMusik Vol. 1 CD, mixed by Coyle and Digby in Kula Lumpur in January ’05, features past classics and forthcoming material on the label, and is available now through Stomp Distribution or www.substrata.com along with Wet 022 – Cave’s Reptile Park EP. For the funkier at heart, look out for Robot Samba on Discomania in coming months.
