At this weeks RETOX party we are handing over the reigns on both floors for the first time, as we have invited back two esteemed crews to take control of the evenings musical proceedings and controlled mayhem…
On the upper level we welcome back East London’s Clandestine soiree, LikeThat, who will be bringing with them very special guest, Todd Bodine, direct from Berlin for this exclusive UK date!
Todd Bodine is a well-known racing car driver. Contrary to his namesake, another Todd Bodine, the well-known German electronic music artist, paves his way on the international techno/house circuit. Bubbling water sounds, low funk grooves, warm basslines, subtle energetic breakdowns and pulsating sequences, Bodine’s rhythms are infused for dancefloor functions, always sure to make the crowds groove. His productions receive full support from names that include Mathew Jonson, Richie Hawtin, Villalobos, Luciano, Anja Schneider and Cassy.
Born in Berlin, Todd began to take on his own musical tastes at the young age of 17. Just after the fall of the Berlin Wall he discovered a fascination for the young, techno club scene in Berlin. In 1997 he met Daniel Paul in his favourite record store, who would later become his friend and mentor. This was the inception of Cabinet Records, for which Todd would begin producing his own music two years later. At the same time he was busy Djing in Berlin clubs like Rosenthaler 59, Casino and WMF, when he found his home base in the legendary Tresor Club as resident until the clubs closing in 2005, and then was re-instated as resident when the club found its new headquarters in 2007.
Through his job at Tresor, he gained even more contacts and eventually moved to the Rampe D studio to further develop his music. At that time he met the iconic Berlin DJ Tom Clark (who rocked Retox a few months back) and thereby laid the groundwork for his extended career. Releases followed on Highgrade and Morris Audio as well as on Tresor’s infamous label. More recently, Todd has been releasing on Claude VonStroke’s Mothership imprint, to much acclaim.
Joining Mr. Bodine will be two of LikeThat’s criminal beatnik masterminds, Nick Moreno & Soho, the latter of which is fresh off releases for Kalilash and a new upcoming cut out on the Multi-Vitamins label. Nick sports a tan from his summer South American tour around various destinations. One of our Retox residents will be opening up the party…
Meanwhile, in the basement, we welcome back Artizan Music and their record label session 'Uptownboogiedown'. The firm heads over for both their Notting Hill Arts Club after-party and a launch party for the labels latest release from The Smoke entitled 'Bone Sucking Sauce'. Joining label heads and production duo Jafar & Maxime Cescau (aka Poussez) are two of the labels artists; Scotland's finest - Funky Transport, whose impressive remix skills feature on The Smoke package, not to mention oodles of the scene's best underground house imprints over the years, and Ben Parkinson, who follows recent outings on Brique Rouge and his own BOE label, with a quality remix for Artizan out at the end of November...
As always, the doors open at 9pm and the party touches down at 6am. Please arrive early for this one! The usual afterparty action takes place in the new location - details on the night ;)
