Fiction presents Deep Sea Cruise with The Drifter & Dory

  • DEEP SEA CRUISE Join us as we embark on our most epic aquatic voyage yet. We highly encourage props and costume for this maritime journey... Come as an ocean adventurer, cruise ship passenger, deep sea creature, real or mythical. We will be joined by Berghain Panorama Bar regular The Drifter. Anyone who was fortunate enough to see him at Cityfox NY in the River Room can attest to this man's raw musical talent. The Drifter is founder of the incredible Maeve label with Mano Le Tough and Baikal, and plays alongside the likes of Dixon and Ame at festivals around the world. We can't wait to see what he does with a Hudson River sunset as his backdrop. Dory will be playing a special birthday set for us. Expect top shelf tunes and kinetic basslines from the Listed veteran. AFTERPARTY AT VERBOTEN w/ MIGHTYKAT FREE with Deep Sea wristband Join us after the boat at the Verboten Cabaret room with the talented Mightykat from Montreal, alongside Fiction residents Joe Foxton and Steve Graham. Please note that both of these events are 21+ ~------------------------------~ THE DRIFTER (MAEVE) Listen: https://soundcloud.com/thedriftersound The Drifter is Mark Flynn, an Irish producer, DJ and singer. After an upbringing dabbling in different musical persuits, from bands and choirs to folk and traditional, a love for electronic music was born from ventures into Dublin nightlife. A move to Berlin ensued soon after. He released his first solo work, the 'Lovers' EP on Permanent Vacation in late 2012. It received excellent feedback, James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem calling the E.P " really nice, gentle and strong." The A side "Day and Night" featured on Ruede Hagelstein's Edition of the Watergate mix series. His own vocals on the EP caught the attention of some of his peers, resulting in him recording vocals for Jacob Korn, Slow Hands, Erdbeerschnitzel, Good Guy Mikesh & Filburt, and Baikal. Further remixes for Woolfy vs. Projections, Uma, Ships and Slow Hands side project Male Madame have made him one to watch. The Drifter's dj style, like his productions, definitely lean towards the hypnotic, melodic and emotive side of electronic music. No matter what genre he is playing. House, Techno, Disco. He learned his craft from hours of djing in bars and clubs and running clubnights. One such clubnight was Passion Beat, a night he ran in Berlin for over 3 years with his buddy Mano Le Tough. It gathered a loyal, steady following and quickly became known for it's two residents and the guest artists they booked. His reputation as a dj has steadily grown and brought him all over Europe. He runs the record label Maeve together with two of his close friends, Mano Le Tough and Baikal. All three share a similar passion for deep emotive music, and the label has quickly become one to watch, releasing music from Baikal, Mano Le Tough and remixes from Ripperton and Dixon. Maeve 04 Again EP by The Drifter has just been released and is receiving some excellent feedback and being played by the likes of Dixon, Ame, Tale of Us among others. 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for The Drifter. A couple of EPs for Permanent Vacation are on the way, as well as a track featuring on the label's "If This Is House Give Me Your Money Back" compilation. And of course his Again EP on Maeve has just come out. DORY (LISTED) Listen: https://soundcloud.com/pacifictime Dory hails from just outside Chicago but has had trouble staying put. Over the past 10 years she has called the Windy City home, along with San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles and Zurich. She first started DJing at Northwestern University's WNUR-FM and kept a relatively low profile until 2006, when San Francisco-based Listed Productions brought its residents together for the first time. Since then Dory has rocked dance floors from Europe to the South Pacific, consistently winning over new fans with her intelligent blend of groovy house and techno. Dory now lives in Brooklyn and juggles a day job as a HR executive at a media company with appearances in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Denver and the BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen. She's warmed up for Adriatique, Lee Jones, Mark Henning, Steve Bug, Konrad Black, Danny Howells and Cassy in recent years, and plays locally at Output and Verboten clubs, CityFox events as well as concept parties produced by the Fiction NYC crew. MIGHTYKAT (LISTED) Listen: https://soundcloud.com/mightykat MightyKat was born with a sixth sense for rhythm. A native Montrealer, she launched her career in 1998 and released her first mix CD "Confidence" in 2001, earning her praise both at home and abroad. Since then, she’s become a player on the international scene while continuing to organize and promote local events. She is also label partner of Pronto Musique and Release The Pressure with producer, Miguel Graça. Counting her main influences as jazz, disco, and soul, MK’s unique sound bridges eclectic house and the funkier side of techno. Her sophisticated style, refined track selection, and tight mixing skills define her signature sound, while her love of the dance floor drives her musical intuition wherever she plays. LONDON KAYE (Street Artist) http://www.londonkaye.com/#/turned-magazine/ London Kaye is a classically trained dancer who discovered her passion for crochet at the age of thirteen. London received a dance scholarship to NYU and after graduation, dove into the local street-art scene. She began developing her signature style by crocheting on fences, trees, and subway cars. London made her debut in fall 2013 at Fashion Week collaborating with the award winning designer, Tia Cibani. She has adorned the windows of ABC Carpet and Home and has recently crocheted major pieces for Starbucks, Drake Hotel, and Isaac Mizrahi. According to Condé Nast Traveller, "London Kaye is the one to watch."
