From 1977-1987 NYC's Paradise Garage provided a safe the LGBT community to dance and socialize without judgment. The style of dance music played at the club by resident DJ Larry Levan and others gave rise to the terms "New York House" and "Garage." Paradise Garage also hosted acts such as Madonna, Diana Ross, Grace Jones and The Clash during its time in operation.
Kim Ann Foxman is not only a prominent figure in contemporary queer culture, but is also one of NYC's most respected underground DJs! Inspired by New York's rich dance culture, early techno, and Latin freestyle, Foxman's sets and productions are 100% body music. As the head honcho of Firehouse Records, Foxman releases tracks that summon the 70's and 80's with swooning vocals, arpeggiated melodies and tributes to the history of house.
U Street Music Hall will be aesthetically transformed to represent a Paradise Garage-like atmosphere. Local artists will decorate the club by creating pieces that pay homage to Paradise Garage regular Keith Haring!!
