In conclusion to what has been an unforgettable Summer season, we’re taking to the seas one last time for our final boat party of 2015. For the occasion, we’ve invited two staple acts from the inimitable Kompakt Records roster – Michael Mayer & Blond:ish – to provide us with a deep and driving soundtrack as we cruise through the sunset.
As an essential techno and house imprint since the mid-90s, the secret to Kompakt’s stamina has much to do with its consistency. The label has kept many of its core artists close throughout its history, counting legends like Wolfgang & Reinhart Voigt, Justus Köhncke, Matias Aguayo, Thomas Fehlmann and others as frequent contributors.
At the label’s helm is Michael Mayer, the DJ/producer figurehead who has chiefly donned its public face since its founding. Primarily known for his globetrotting DJ presence as well as his expansive production catalog, Mayer has been indispensible in forging the identity of the label. He is undoubtedly an ambassador for the Kompakt sound – an especially important role, as many of his label-mates have remained closer to the studio than the stage. Kompakt has supported many stars over the years – names like Gui Boratto, The Field, John Tejada, the Orb, Superpitcher, and others come immediately to mind – but in his legacy, Mayer forms the central core.
One of the label’s largest signings in recent years is Blond:ish, a duo who are rapidly approaching super-stardom, even with their debut full-length album yet to drop next month. Originally from Montreal, but now based in London and touring around the world, Anstascia and Vivie-Ann are a powerhouse DJ/production outfit. Their innovative blend of pop – generously flourished with textured house and techno – has found a perfect home on Kompakt time and time again.
Our trusted residents/curators Taimur & Fahad will lay down the warm-up set as we prepare to set sail, priming our ears for an incredible evening on the Hudson River. As always, we expect the pair to draw upon their vast and eclectic record collection, bringing both classic and cutting-edge sounds to the turntables.
