  • As co-founder, resident DJ, and primary creative director of Blk|Market Membership since its founding in 2006, Taimur Agha has been instrumental in building the rapidly growing New York dance community to where it now stands. A participant in the late ‘90s’ and early 2000s famed club residencies in NYC, including Sasha & Digweed’s stint at Twilo and Danny Tenaglia and Deep Dish at Vinyl, he weathered the club scene’s dissolution post 9/11 and its retreat to the underground. When Bill Patrick, Nick Ac, and Dennis Rodgers ended ROBOTS, they handed the torch to Taimur and his partner Fahad Haider to become the new leading lights of a re-established dance culture that would take the city into its next nightlife era. Blk|market Membership’s list of guests reads as a who’s who of contemporary artists from the era, hosting debuts from the Wighnomy Brothers, Cassy, San Proper, Jamie Jones, Skudge, Rødhåd, Mike Dehnert, Apollonia, and more, as well as the returns of legends like Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald, Francesco Tristano, and DBX. Taimur’s personal DJ resume includes multiple appearances at world renown clubs: fabric, Panorama Bar, Trouw, Club der Visionaere, Renate, Ibiza’s Zoo Project and tiNI & the Gang parties, Vertigo, Montreal’s STEREO, SmartBar, Moscow’s Arma17 & Gipsy, Paris’ Sundae, B018 in Beirut, successive yearly appearances at both Dubai’s Analog Room and Romania’s Sunwaves festival, and many more across the globe, alongside many of the world’s most important DJs. Locally, he presided over New York’s best addresses in his era, including Danny Tenaglia’s private loft, Output, TBA Brooklyn, LOVE, and Wolf+Lamb’s Marcy Hotel. Taimur and Fahad now hold a monthly residency at the Standard Hotel’s prestigious Le Bain while continuing their underground activities. As head of buying and distribution at Halcyon Records from 2008 until mid-2014, Taimur sustained New York’s struggling dance scene through difficult times and set the tone for its resurgence. His community-oriented radio show The Bandwagon ran 116 episodes during his tenure and helped to bring together labels and promoters from around the city, with appearances from Blk|Market talent and showcases for The Bunker, ReSolute, L.I.E.S., Deconstruct Music, Underground Quality, The Corner, Plan B Recordings, Voodoo Down Records and more. Guests included Rhadoo, Fred P, Adam X, tiNI, Aybee, the Martinez Brothers, DJ Qu, Joey Anderson, Anthony Parasole, Kyle Hall, Function, Reade Truth, Recondite, DVS1, Boddika, Gerd Janson, Juan Atkins, Mr.Ties, Raresh, and countless others. His A&R vision for distribution led to agreements with Novel Sound, Deconstruct, The Corner, Strength Music, Sonic Groove, White Material, Scissor & Thread, Dystopian, and more. On the strength of these accomplishments, Taimur at last devoted himself full-time to his own DJ career, to the management of his labels Higher Frequencies and BlkMarket Membership, and to his still-growing nightlife empire. With nine years of history and accolades for helping to revive one of the world’s most important dance music centers, Taimur and Blk|Market Membership hold an esteemed position as architects of New York’s contemporary scene as well as guiding lights for its future. Deep Space, is an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes, and abstract grooves featuring resident DJ François K. live on the mixing board with special guests. Since the party’s launch in 2003, Deep Space has featured a who’s who of well known and then emerging artists from around the world representing a stunning array of musical styles that Deep Space is known for integrating into its open minded aesthetic. While the mission of Deep Space remains committed to sharing a love of dub, a vast, under-appreciated musical direction, the party has invited a great range of guest artists to share their creative dub mixing approaches to all things spacey, psychedelic and mind-bending. From dubstep pioneers such as Mala, Goth-Trad, and Digital Mystikz, to house, techno & disco icons such as Giorgio Moroder, Dimitri from Paris, Theo Parrish, Rhythm & Sound, Ron Trent, Carl Craig, Joe Claussell, Derrick May, to cutting edge producers and tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mr. Scruff, DJ Spooky and dub legends such as Adrian Sherwood with Pinch, Mad Professor, Mutabaruka and U-Roy, and Brazilian icons Otto with Carlinhos Brown and plenty of live musical and dance performers, Deep Space continues to be a magnet for attracting many of electronic dance music’s most innovative artists. Almost all of the guest artists who play at Deep Space create truly one-of-kind, crate-digging "Deep Space sets." Deep Space has been presented abroad at the Big Chill Festival (UK), Plastic People (UK), TDK Cross Central Festival (UK), Space Lab Yellow (Japan), Café Jamaica (Japan), Precious Hall (Japan), Phase (Japan), throughout France, in Berlin, Denmark, SONAR Festival in Barcelona and across the U.S. In 2010 Deep Space received a dedicated night at Burning Man’s Disorient camp. In 2004 Deep Space was nominated for “Best Club Night” by the internationally televised “DanceStar USA” awards. In 2005 & 2006 François K. won “Best Resident DJ Award” at the Club World Awards held in Miami. Deep Space was named “Best Party 2004” in Time Out New York. Deep Space was nominated for “Best Party,” at the Club World Awards 2006 and 2007. New York Magazine featured Deep Space in the “Best of New York 2006” issue. In 2013 Do Androids Dance lauded Deep Space as one of “The 10 Best Club Nights in the US.” Francois K. was named "Best Resident DJ" by the 2015 Nightclub Awards. In 2005 Deep Space NYC Vol. 1, a compilation mixed by François K., was released on Wave Music’s imprint Deep Space Media to critical acclaim.
