Now let’s take a quick look back on our 5 years. ‘What is ReviveHER?’
Just over 5 years ago a group of likeminded musos, dancers and disco freaks gathered at The C.A.M.P. to hear Jonny Nash soundtrack ‘Diva Mortis’ - an Italo Horror film that didn’t exist:
“Escaping stellar purgatory, like a luminous apparition rising from the damned ashes of summer, 'ReviveHER' celebrate their opening party 'Diva Mortis’!!!”
A few stints later at long lost haunts from “Passion”, to spoof LFW parties in a youthful Dalston Superstore, a squatted pub and a few backroom appearances at secretsundaze, we hooked up with Huntleys & Palmers to bring Julio Bashmore and Jackmaster to a 200 capacity art gallery basement in Shoreditch. Staying ahead of the curve, tongue firmly in cheek and a ‘future heroes & forgotten legends’ manifesto established, we set out to revive London’s inner diva (a time when venues and line ups had becomes stale) ….
The following year we hosted the aptly named ‘Jack 2 Jack’ party: pitching upstart Jackmaster alongside Chicago original Farley Jackmaster Funk and Jack the Tab (Richard Norris). The JACK was felt far and wide, receiving a Metro spread, No.1 in the Guardian and Timeout plus features in Dazed, Dummy and FACT.
That same year saw us think the unthinkable (at the time) and host a rave in EFES snooker club with Tim Sweeney, Auntie Flo, James Priestley and John Heckle live. After a few mad parties at Superstore, we settled there for a 2 year residency with an array of inspired overseas line ups, being the only party to bring such esteemed guests to such a small venue.
ReviveHER outgrew its roots and relocated further East to Hackney Wick from the ever over trendified Dalston, seeking out loft spaces, theatres, listed buildings and warehouses in the ever creative blank canvas of Hackney Wick, honing in on interesting acts from various genres, scenes and eras, reviving them and the cool that many parties in the East had lost. Juxtaposing the forgotten legend with the future hero; master and apprentice; opening barriers between crowds, mindsets and demographics.
Settling on a loft space accessed via an elevator, we leased a space in Mother Studios we billed as StudioWHO, where for the next couple of years we would host UK debuts for Young Marco and Xosar, label parties for Local Talk, Let’s Play House, Rush Hour and even fly in and fit Lovefingers, Chida, Cos Mes, Otologic and Tim Sweeney all on the same bill.
In 2013 we ventured in to “clubland” as we did our first party at Corsica Studios where we collaborated with Phonica to host the elusive Vakula’s UK debut with Magic Mountain High live, Maurice Fulton, Lord of the Isles and many more.
Later that year we procured our greatest name game to date - “M.C.D.E” - a play on Motor City Drum Ensemble’s acronym to include Eddie C, Move D and Mark E. Making legendary status in club ‘folklore’, the party oversold Corsica Studios including the adjacent Colombian Restaurant! With queues around the block we literally couldn’t let anyone in the door having sold 1000 in advance as the cheeky wordplay dominated press and became talked about for weeks across the country.
It’s here we return with another one, ready to blow out the candles on our 5th Birthday, guaranteed to be a Funkin’ sell out.

FARLEY JACKMASTER FUNK (TRAX / DJ INTERNATIONAL / CHICAGO)
Farley Jackmaster Funk is the original member of house music’s founding fathers and Chicago’s Hot Mix 5, the first house crew to grace the radio over 30 years ago.
A guest at Frankie Knuckles’ Warehouse in 84, the club that gave house music its name, he is the creator of House music’s first UK hit, ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ in 1986, which kick started the genre overseas and reached No.1 on TOTPs!
Many contest where the term ‘house’ originates but Farley lays claim he announced it on his show in ’83 - that the music he played will be called ‘house’. Before that, Farley was already utilising a TR-808 drum machine when playing his sets at The Playground to ‘boost the beat’ – this became known as ‘Farley’s Foot’.
A dominant force during the dodgy recording deals of late 80s Chicago, Farley’s name was frequented on the likes of DJ International and Trax Records, the most important early label in the history of House. His House Records label also released Chip E’s holy grail ‘Jack Trax’ featuring the anthem ‘Time To Jack’. Check the recent 25 years of Trax comp and you’ll see Farley’s contribution.
Whether it was ‘House Nation’ credited to his other alias, ‘Housemaster Boyz’, his seminal hit ‘As Always’ being popularized in noughties Ibiza, or the overlooked ‘Farley Knows House’ and he clearly does, his visits to these shores have been few and far between.
It will be a privilege to have Farley J back in the UK, the first time since he appeared for us at “Jack 2 Jack”. He be funkin with the drums.

PUMP IT, WORK IT SHAKE DAT’ SUPER BOOTY!!!!!!!!
On to the next decade of Chicago House and the birth of Dancemania Records, the label started by Farley’s associate Jesse Saunders, to expose the new generation of Chicago house producers in the early 1990s.
DJ FUNK is house music’s undisputed king of the ghetto - his music was made for booty. Rooted in Hip-house, Funk’s high energy jams were the sound of the black underground in 90s Chicago and continue to influence the sound of electro world-wide today.
"When I was coming up, I admired guys like Lil' Louis and Farley [Jackmaster Funk]. [House and hip-house] was a phenomenon. It was the shit!
"Ghetto house started at this club called The Factory with me, Jammin Gerald and Houz' Mon. We didn't have a record deal at the time so we used 4-tracks, drum machines and samplers live. I saw that people really loved it when the tracks was really simple and broke down. They went crazy–lots of sexual energy!
People really like you to tell them what to do. If you at a party and you say 'Shake that ass, bitch!' You know...motherfuckers gotta shake that ass!!

His 1999 album Booty House Anthems sold over one million copies. His 2008 release of “Booty House Anthems 2″ produced over 3,500,000 downloads. He’s known to be a major influence of many different artists such as Daft Punk who name checked him in their tribute track “Teachers” from their first album Homework.
He’s shared stages with Daft Punk, Green Velvet, Justice, FRANKIE BONES, Funkmaster Flex, Ice-T, The Roots, Steve Aoki, Ken Ishii, Calvin Harris, DJ QBert, Wu-Tang Clan, ARMAND VAN HELDEN, Boys Noize, Grandmaster Flash Afrika Bambaataa, Run DMC and finally ReviveHER!
The Dance Mania veteran recently turned Gold and to celebrate remastered more than 40 songs— including raunchy favorites ‘Hos in This House’, ‘DJ Funk Gonna Hurt Somebody’ and ‘Titties and Beer’. The 20th anniversary greatest hits collections was followed by a World Tour this year.
Never without his signature diamante cap, DJ FUNK’s crazy-ass antics need to be seen to be believed.

FunkinEven (Eglo / Apron Records / UK)
London born Stevie J is no stranger to sound system culture. From his Grenadian roots to family involvements in Notting Hill carnival growing up, the speaker stacks and record crates were never too far away. Inspired by the Hip Hop, early Hard- core and Drum & Bass movements of the 90s, Steve joined a rap crew as 'producer' and evolved to create an incomparable hybrid of styles, cumulating in a new strain of UK house at the end of the last decade.
Displaying a colourful and diverse palette of sounds, styles and tempos, FunkinEven made his debut as the third artist on Floating Points’ Eglo records. 2009’s KLEER EP featured a distinctive take on traditional Boogie, experimental Swing, and Four to the Floor, representing an evolution in Electronic music.
Two equally impressive EPs followed, cementing FunkinEven's reputation as one to watch and collaborative projects with Ikonika (Hyperdub), Bonobo (Ninja Tune), Fatima and Roisin Murphy [of Moloko fame] followed.
In 2011 he launched his limited edition vinyl imprint, Apron Records. Now on it’s 18th release, it’s home to Seven Davis Jr, Greg Beato and Lord Tusk. With most releases selling out in minutes, Apron’s rarities have only brought further fuel to the legend.
Steve’s recent project with Kyle Hall, ‘Funkinevil’ (pronounced Fuckin’ Evil!) sits somewhere between tough Detroit and the smoother side of Funkineven- a particularly snarling brand of harmony. Hall says:
- “It works because the funk is there in the music too, along with the darkness.”
Funkineven is one of the busiest DJs on the circuit with back to back dates all over the world. We look forward to welcoming him home for what’s only his 2nd London date of 2015.

INTERSTELLAR FUNK (Rush Hour / Tape Recs / Amsterdam)
The Netherlands has no shortage of celebrated DJs and producers, but now it is time to shine a light on one that is deserving of a much wider audience. Part of a new breed of young Dutch producers and DJs, Interstellar Funk crafts magical melodies and hugely textured house tracks that look to the future whilst taking cues from the past.
As well as releasing on the Rush Hour label and the famed Tape Records collective, he also works for Rush Hour in their hunt for new music, was resident at the much loved Trouw and is a DJ who joins the dots between house and techno, new wave and oddities like afro beat to much aplomb. Schooled in the old ways of the dance but filled with ideas about how it should sound in the future, Interstellar Funk is on his way to blowing up and fits in perfectly to represent the most recent FUNK decade of producers on the line up as he makes his UK debut at ReviveHER, as did his Rush Hour predecessor several years ago, Young Marco.

FUNKMASTER OZONE (Da Source Records / Cologne)
Our live artist is a hidden gem and a real wild card. Not even discogs lists all of his productions.
Funkmaster Ozone alias Johann Wagner started to breakdance and Electric Boogie in 1983 and fell in love with oldschool funk and rap. It was just a matter of time until he started mixing and scratching and soon became very successful at big events like the DMC Championships.
Influenced by the early West Coast electro scene and artists like Egyptian Lover, Paul Hardcastle, The P-Funk Allstars, not forgetting Roger Troutman and Zapp, he started to create his own sounds using a Talkbox and a Moog Rogue. He’s collaborated with Ronnie Hudson, Snoop Dogg, E-40 (West Coast Poplock 2020), Egyptian Lover, Zapp, Bootsy Collins and many more.
The Master Ozone’s “freaky live performances” incorporate his trademark talk box and analogue synthesisers. He’s joined on stage by two “poppers” bringing the moves.
Completing 5 decades of music with his late 70s P Funk boogie and early 80s electro, our only live act of the night is sure to get the party started right.
