COSINE is a brand new monthly happening every 4th Saturday at The Rose Bar. We’ve brought together several local crews to collaborate on this multi-genre night, in order to push our local underground scene into new directions. This is a night where you can expect to hear music that pushes the creative envelope in a way that is still accessible to everyone. The world is changing and what better way to adapt than to delve deeper into the rhythms and melodies of new music.
Cosine will bring you the best of FOOTWORK, JUKE, BASS, BEATS, CLUB, DUB and beyond. We all love, are inspired and influenced by different things so why not bring them all together to explore the possibilities?
For our first installment we want to showcase all the people involved including our special guest:
MASSACOORAMAAN -
Also known as Dave Quam. Fadetomind. 1/2 of Vissacoor, Ancestral Club Mix & Modern Melodies. Dave has been an integral part of the rising Footwork scene as well as a key player here in Portland. Along with playing all over the country you can catch him most Fridays holding it down at The Black Book. He has been featured by XLR8R, THUMP, Dazed Digital, Night Slugs and Dis Magazine.
RESIDENTS:
PDX MANDEM -
EmV Kush and Skelli host a radio show on KPSU that brings rotating guest selectors and plays heavily into the Grime scene and seem to be building a nice collection of white labels from up and coming as well as established producers. They have also been experimenting with live dub sets incorporating instruments and traditional dub mixing techniques.
FUTURE BASS -
Knate Pha$er and Quaz have been diligently building their base in the world of future beats and bass. Up until the recent closing of Berbati’s you could hear these 2 on Sundays pushing music the likes of west coast bass, downtempo and neo-soul. You can also see Knate Pha$er at Upper Playground for special events and art shows.
TENTH DEGREE -
Albino Gorilla and Snackman have been focusing their efforts towards their net label with compilation releases as well as solo artist releases. They have been collaborating with other rising producer/DJ collectives such as Juke Bounce Werk, Tekk DJz, Polish Juke, and Ground Mass. Diligent in not only pushing other people’s music but they also have a constant stream of productions being kicked out of their solo material. Expect to hear a wide range of Uptempo music including footwork and jersey club.
