To celebrate the approaching 2nd Andromeda Festival that is held just outside of Brisbane up there in the sunshine state at the end of October we've decided to do Something Else and put together a little pre-emptive party for Sydney people to get excited and tempted to travel up north for one of Australia's best underground music festivals.
Andromeda is one of those festivals where things are just done “right”, with a line up including international & local acts such as; FRED P, DJ DEEP, DJ NOBU, Tuff Sherm, Dan White, Michael Ozone, Echo Inspectors & Jordan Peters to pick out just a few highlights. Tickets will be super limited to only 500, hence providing a very intimate experience. And to top it all off Andromeda are going the whole damn hog and pulling together a massive Void system to ensure the sound is 110%.
As a bit of a treat for our awesome family of dancers who come to Something Else every week we're going to be giving away 2 x double pass tickets to festival (valued at $95 each, does not include any travel costs to the festival). Now for the music, for the launch party in Sydney we are super chuffed to have three of the brilliant locals from the festival line up playing for us;
Echo Inspectors (Primary Colours / Etui Records / Melb)
Echo Inspectors are Mark Baumann and Lance Harrison From Melbourne, Australia. Lurking in the shadows, inspired by all that is dark, hidden and mysterious.
For mine these lads are Australia's most prolific dub-techno act, currating their own vinyl only record label, Primary Colours, to host their own releases which also feature remixes by luminaries such as Luke Hess, cv313, Salz & Dean DeCosta. They've also featured on German Label Etui Records and had a remix on the mysterious Silver Ash label.
Rikki Newton (Andromeda / Subtrakt / Bris)
Rikki Newton has been an unfaltering member of the Brisbane DJ community and one of its beacons for underground house and techno.
Rikki has also featured at Subsonic Music Festival, Spice, SASH and Circoloco in Sydney, and internationally in Prague, Brno (Czech Republic), Berlin and Salerno (Italy).
Well known as half of the team behind Subtrakt Events (which he established in 2007 and runs with good friend Adam Swain) Rikki has both hosted and played alongside international talents Dixon, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Steve Bug, Prosumer, Smallpeople, Moomin, Oskar Offermann, Jus-Ed, Tornado Wallace, Move D and Fred P.
In conjunction with members of the Kana, White Rhino and Let’s Get Minimal collectives, Rikki is launching the Andromeda Festival - a boutique open-air electronica event set to take place on November 22nd-23rd 2014 at Ivory’s Rock in South-East Queensland’s Scenic Rim. With an edgy music policy and creativity first approach, it will be a breath of fresh air to audiences looking to break from run of the mill festival line-ups.
Jordan Peters (Anomaly / Syd)
We're super proud to see one of our favorite local techno wizz kids, and something of a regular on Something Else dj line ups, apearing on the line up for the 2nd Andromeda festival. Its a great credit to this young DJ. Uncomprimising in style yet mature in selections Jordan's dj's sets belie his age and lives up the the dj bio cliché of being “one to watch in the future”.
