As was the case for many kids who grew up in the early 90s in the South West of Germany, Gerd Janson was a regular guest at Mannheim’s legendary Milk Club. Although this venue was most popular for putting jungle on the map in Germany, Gerd always used to wait eagerly for the early morning hours when the pace slowed down and US styled house was the ruling sound. In the following years, his deep love for house and disco music was fed in Frankfurt’s Wild Pitch Club by Heiko MSO and Ata. In 1998, Gerd Janson finally got his first DJ residency at Darmstadt’s Café Kesselhaus. Gerd has since been serving the hottest house and disco cuts at Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson, where he has hosted the Liquid club nights together with DJ heavyweight Thomas Hammann for the past few years. Without a doubt, Gerd Janson is one of the hottest talents on the German DJ circuit. The word has spread, and he now travels a lot internationally to perform. And when not spinning records he’s known as a prolific music journalist, writing for Groove magazine and Spex, or otherwise he’s busy working at the Pentagon Recordstore in his hometown Darmstadt and as part of the staff for the Red Bull Music Academy. Although the moniker only appeared in 2010, Moomin is no newcomer. A deep appreciation for music surfaced at an early age, as he diligently assembled his personal volume. In his own words, Moomin is simply a music-lover. In the wake of his breakout debut album, The Story About You, and in the words of others, Moomin is unique for his “resplendent naturalism” and his “beautiful, introspective take on house music”; he has cast “modern house music magic”, been raised to the ranks of “house music's finest new artists,” and become an artist that “you can listen to anytime, anywhere.” Moomin has refined his studio signature in recent years, applying a subtle and hypnotic approach to music that is deeply rooted in soul and groove. Moomin’s sleeper album, The Story About You, debuted on Smallville Records in November 2011. As the organic groundswell of support for the record grew in size and scale, The Story About You became the year’s definitive underground album, with glowing reviews and a noticeable presence on many tastemaker end-of-year lists. Since he arrived in Berlin in 2007, Moomin has made an indelible mark on the capital’s sprawling club scene, with sets at Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, Watergate, Club der Visionäre, Arma 17, Rex Club and Warehouse 72 to name just a few. The last year alone has seen his influence go further afield, as he has debuted DJ and live sets in London, Chicago, New York and Tokyo. David Benjamin aka Noema has, since Dec 2011, been running the monthly event series “The Magic Movement” in collaboration with Deemeetree at the infamous Soju-Bar (Berlin) to promote their co-founded “360° Lifestyle Project“. At it’s foundation, this project is about trying to surprise oneself and going beyond one’s own expectations and boarders. Referring to their motto “Creating the Possibilities, Exploring the Opportunities” they do things they can’t do and don’t try to make it good. In this context they discovered the closest balance to unbalance and, in this light, they promote 360° action with no remorse. Noema’s DJ sets are known for their sexy, deep and hypnotic flavor ranging from scandalous disco and cocky pop to bouncy house and techno, combined in a highly energetic mix. With 15 years of DJing experience, he is always heading for the big emotions on the dance floor. In his sets there are no boundaries between the different styles of dance music, but under one condition: it must be funky. In addition to his DJing, Noema has worked in the studio with Daniel Wang, Apparat and Crowdpleaser, as well as collaborating on a number of songs with Roberta Sweed (Mahagoni Music, Detroit). In 2009 he co-composed 2 Songs on the Album “Zephyr” for the Grammy winning act Basement Jaxx (XL-Recordings) and is a band member of “Wahoo“, a project run by DJ Dixon (Innervisions) and Georg Levin jointly, with whom Noema also recorded Georg’s last Solo Album ‘Everything must Change“ (BBE Records). Noema also works as a producer at “Black Fountain Studio”, a studio that he founded in Berlin.
