In '91 he moved to California and helped to form the 'Wicked Crew' which helped to define the West Coast club sound; a powerfull influence on America's club scene for years to come. In '96 he relocated to New York and formed 'A.R.E. Weapons': a Science-Fiction Punk Rock band that ushered in the Electro Clash movement. After being 'discovered' by Jarvis Cocker they signed to Rough Trade Records in London and cut chart hits and an album. Unable to keep still in the scene he helped create, he returned to NY and to DJing and formed 'Rub n Tug' with partner Eric D. The Rub n Tug parties and it's off-shoot Campfire are now somewhat legendary around the world. Under this handle the boys have done remixes for such heavy-hitters as The Beastie Boys, Coldplay and Roxy Music aswell as more underground acts as !!! and LCD Soundsystem. Rub n Tug have brought something new back to disco; as I-D Magazine put it : ' In there hands the disco ball has regained consciousness . . . '.As well as all this, Thomas has started a label in New York called 'Whatever We Want Records' with partner Carlos Arias, a band with DJ Harvey called 'Map Of Africa' that has an LP coming out in July and a Electronic Rockabilly outfit with San Francisco party darling Rene Peraz called 'Bobbie Marie'. He also may or may not be responsible for the 'Otter Man Empire' re-edit series - The Off Key Hat http://www.myspace.com/offkeyhat The Off Key Hat is a combination of Leon Mayes and Darren Morris (Xpress 2, David Holmes, Jagz Kooner and Tim Goldsworthy's keyboard player). Leon is currently running a night at the Dolphin in Hackney called Futurismo. Look out for The Off Key Hat's next release 'Emergency Calling', with remix duties by DFA's Tim Goldsworthy.
