Monism Music was founded in 2007 in Los Angeles by MO7S as an outlet for himself and other artists to publish content in the changing landscape of what has been coined as “the digital music revolution.” (Insert Chuckle)
The label's core North American crew of Jon Cates, Null Space and MO7S worked across the spectrum of electronic music given each of their dynamic backgrounds. Working internationally with artists like Tim Wright (Novamute/Tresor), Si Begg (Mute/Noodles) and Simon Shackleton (U&A,Stereophoenix) are just a few sonic examples that have comprised within the labels catalog.
Moving into modern times didn’t require making up new genre names. The label diversified it’s role in publishing and synch being featured on several episodes of FOX’s off beat American Dad! Songs like Jon Cates “Science Fact” destroys genre definition with 5/4 time signature and epic synthesizer programming during a Steve Smith Math Montage. In more recent episodes, Null Spaces monster “Cyberia” turns out the disco while Roger Alien tries to save the whales!!!
“At the core of Monism, has always been a deep love and admiration for the early american Techno scene” Label Owner MO7S explains passionately the underlying inspirations of Jackin’ Chicago, the refinery and iridescence of Detroit, and the simple qualities of Dub and an Ambient music intertwined into everything monism touches. “If our initial inspiration at a dance party comes from mixing things, I see it as a failure if we don’t mix these things….Consolidate the good!!”
Friday night welcomes 3 of Monism’s more active contributors. The Dub and Ambient influenced sounds of Techsture will open the night, weaving his way through big soundscapes with proper minimal, micro house and dub techno. Bass bins beware.. Then comes Monism veteran Techno consort, Null Space. The often hard to find character is easily seen in a crowd, often a clean foot above. And lastly the return of MO7S. Monism label runner and DJ show stopper has been credited amongst the most under rated DJ’s in the country. He has played along side them all and his most recent set at Underground left people requesting an encore.The same thing just happened on Playa at Burning Man. So on that note, don’t miss out!!
