It's a Salon Des Amateurs special for October as we welcome Detlef Weinrich aka TOLOUSE LOWTRAX and SEAN CANTY to the Soup Kitchen basement!
The shadowy figure behind one of Europe's greatest clubs, SALON DES AMATEURS in Düsseldorf, Weinrich first made waves decades ago as part of the influential Krautrock band KRIEDLER. Since then he has been a cornerstone of Düsseldorf's music scene, latterly being the guiding light at the Salon which has given birth to the next great musical movement from this city, nurturing the likes of LENA WILIKENS and previous Dancers Wanted guest JAN SCHULTE
Growing up in the south of Germany, Weinrich was exposed at an early age to the Cosmic tapes of Daniele Baldelli which had found their way from Italy... this sound stayed in his head forever and you can hear the sedate, psychedelic influence in his music and DJing all these years later, the heart and soul of the 'Salon-Sound'.
Detlef is gonna play a special live set for us as well as bringing a ton of DJ power, and we are joined also by the exceptional SEAN CANTY from DEMDIKE STARE!
Sean is no stranger to the Soup Kitchen basement and is the keeper of one of the world's truly great record collections; the backbone to the nth-dimensional sound of Demdike Stare, he's also able to pre-empt any given trend with no effort at all. Yes he knows all about that rare record you thought you just discovered and by the way here's another ten that are better than it. He's one of those types...
Both Sean & I have played at the Salon with Detlef before; this whole party came about because of a very enthusiastic conversation we had about our experiences in the Salon and how we'd love to try and recreate it over here. We're very excited to bring Detlef to Manchester and are looking forward to a night of the strange, the slow, the sedated. Get ready to sway.
