After our first epic party at Corsica Studios with Desert Sound Colony and Romare, we're heading further south to Peckham's infamous Bussey Building, where we're thrilled to be presenting Afriquoi's super high-energy live show and a masterful world music set from Auntie Flo plus plenty more.
** Afriquoi **
Afriquoi is a live African dance music project, fusing Congolese guitar and Gambian kora virtuosity with UK electronic sensibilities to create captivating, beautiful, dancefloor-friendly new music for a new generation of world music fans with one foot in the clubs.
The collective are rapidly becoming an underground sensation, bringing an uplifting fusion of African music and live electronics. The masterful 5-piece live show combines Gambian kora, Congolese guitar + Mandinka percussion styles with electronic music drawing on house, soca, hiphop, soul + jungle to create something entirely unique.
** Auntie Flo **
Auntie Flo has become a central figure in the new strand of club music, fusing electronic and world influences. He has a unique afro-futurist sound encompassing classic house, disco, techno & electronica influences, alongside afrobeat, kwaito, cumbia and South aMerican rhythms.
His debut mini album set him up as one of the ‘most truly original production talents around’ (Crack magazine), grabbed a nomination for Scottish Album of the Year, and was rated one of the best albums of 2012 by Bleep.com
November 2015 saw the release of his masterpiece LP, Theory of Flo, on Huntleys + Palmers, which clearly proved that by interweaving the rhythms and traditions of Africa & Latin America, with more familiar western club sounds and for-to-the-floor electronic house music, Auntie Flo’s interplanetary projects can break down barriers to fans on both sides of the electronic / world music divide.
