Stuart Li has been turning out heady, soulful techno and house as BASIC SOUL UNIT for more than 10 years now. A true head, Stuart was reared on a steady diet of Toronto college radio before working at jazz-haven Cosmos Records. These diverse influences have found their place in the sounds of BASIC SOUL UNIT. With releases on labels like Dolly, Ostgut Ton, Crème Organization, Mule Electronic, and his own Lab.our Music, he's turned out tracks ranging from deep and sensual groovers to roughed-up dance floor bangers, all while retaining a singular and peerless focus. Now with his newest Dekmantel album "Under The Same Sky," BASIC SOUL UNIT has graced us with another batch of top-notch cuts.
Joining him will be Lab.our partner-in-crime J-UL, aka Jason Ulrich. Inspired by Toronto's influential Twilight Zone underground night club, J-UL took to the decks and has been a staple of the city's vibrant dance music scene ever since. He's shared the booth with icons like Theo Parrish, François K, and Ron Trent, delivering sets that deal in deep boogie cuts, head-down house monsters, and abstracted techno, all while keeping dancers rapt.
