After our last event featuring NL hero Drvg Cvltvre and numerous parties showcasing quality underground artists such as Gerry Read, Chris Mitchell, Beneath and Daniel Koehler we return to inviting exciting new talent to play for the first time here in Amsterdam, God’s very own playground.
Sub:terrein #6 Avalon Emerson
Avalon Emerson relocated from Arizona to San Francisco in 2009 and quickly set to work proving her skills as a DJ, playing extended sets in warehouse parties in the city’s SoMA district. Fast forward a few years and Emerson has relocated to Berlin allowing her to accrue a growing list of international bookings, including dates at Berghain’s Panorama Bar.
No slouch as a producer Avalon saw her debut release on Icee Hot, the label co-founded by XLR8R editor Shawn Reynaldo in 2014, with further releases on San Francisco’s Spring Theory.
Emerson’s DJ sets are wide-ranging and adventurous, just the way we like them: groovy US house, obscure disco gems, banging UK breakbeats, straight up techno and little nods here and there to the synth heavy, melodic sensibilities of late 90s US west coast progressive house. As a DJ Emerson certainly has character, playing serious party music that’s unafraid to bang hard and we’re proud to have her on our decks for our sixth edition.

Following our tradition of giving a platform to local artists trying to get a foot in the scene, Sub:terrein resident Vera Zenith, (formally Balou), teams up with The Kinetic Movement for a B2B session. Vera and TKM set-up the Zonsverduistering AMS parties in the Sugarfactory a couple of years ago, one part UK Bass the other waves of pulsing techno.

We’ve been running our parties since 2013. We grew up in squats, ran parties in Basis Amsterdam, had a couple of events in Doka and moved to our current home the OT301 in June 2014. Like our DJ sets, we programme different styles on the one night - mono-cultures are boring - we keep our ticket prices as low as possible booking quality up and coming artists, with the emphasis on art.
