Dial Records join Oval Space Music for a label showcase on 18th March, headlined by Move D and Jonah Sharp’s revered live techno moniker rEAGENZ, in what is their first London appearance in over five years.
Oval Space has long held a deep admiration for Dial Records. The Berlin label and its various offshoots - Sky Walking, Laid - has been responsible for many of the 21st century’s seminal dance records, specialising in a style of rich, elegant house music as capable of moving hearts and minds as dancing feet. From John Roberts’ melancholy minimalism to Roman Flügel's skippy Afro-techno, Dial has written itself into dance music history as one of the scene's most respected modern record labels.
On 18th March, the Dial crew have invited a special live act to headline: rEAGENZ, the live project of Move D and Jonah Sharp. Move D is rightly regarded as one of the dance music world’s foremost DJs: a wildly popular, multi-talented artist whose tasteful DJ sets are famed for their depth, versatility, and sheer good fun. Together with Jonah Sharp, Move D has been recording warm, hardware-made electronic music as rEAGENZ for over two decades. A deep, psychedelic trip through analog soundscapes and 909 rhythms, their productions have since featured on eminent record labels Workshop, The Bunker and Source.
Dial co-founder Lawrence is also on the bill, making his third appearance at Oval Space. As one of Dial’s chief curators, Lawrence could claim to be one of the most tasteful selectors in the dance music world. In 2008, he said that he and Dial’s other founders, “never wanted to have a straight house label”, and it’s under their careful hand that the label has long since transcended the usual confines of 4/4 music.
Also making his third, much-anticipated return to Bethnal Green, the other brain behind Dial Records, Carsten Jost. As a producer and label owner Carsten has gained universal respect in the electronic community; but it’s as a DJ that Carsten is truly special. On his last two dates with Oval Space, he stole the show with a series of exquisite, obscure house records, mixed with panache, precision and skill.
