Darkbeat and MTC (Melbourne Techno Collective) are two of the longest standing techno crews in Melbourne. This coming January they join forces to welcome two of the UK’s hottest techno exports - Skream and his Magnetic Man cohort, Artwork. Known initially for their work championing the dubstep sound in the early 2000s, the past few years has seen the pair shift focus to their beloved passion for techno; a fruitful decision that has lit up the scene worldwide.
Skream has caught the purists attention by dishing out an array of thumping releases on world class labels, some of these include 'Hot Creations', 'Watergate Records' and 'Leftroom', whilst sharing the stage with techno giants Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Dubfire, Ellen Allien + many more at legendary festivals such as ‘Cocoon’ & ‘Enter’... to name just a few.
Together, the pair have solidified themselves as some of the most sought after techno DJ’s on the circuit - so expect the unexpected!
SKREAM
Since the age of 16 Skream has been making waves, and I mean BIG waves. Alongside Benga, they were at the very forefront of the dubstep movement. From 2003 in dingy clubs through to headlining Ultra in front of 20,000 people in 2013 he was instrumental in the sound becoming popular.
“I felt like a robot, playing music people wanted me to play, rather than music I wanted to hear…I wasn’t being inspired anymore.”
Fast forward to 2015 and Skream is now reinvented himself, inspired once again, “come with me, or fuck off”. His new sound is raw, throbbing techno. It’s visceral, sweaty and energetic. Skream is here to stay.
ARTWORK
As a long time fan of Jeff Mills & Joey Beltram, Artwork has been living & breathing techno for aeons. With classic releases on Fat Cat Records & Richie Hawtin's Decks, EFX & 909 mix, and countless releases under several different aliases such as 'Grain', 'Miki Moto' & 'Santos Rodriguez' - he is the real deal. Artwork is also the mastermind behind the iconic Magnetic Man project; discovering two of the biggest names on the scene today - Skream and Benga!
