Oval Space Music x Tresor 25 Years

  • Oval Space hosts the 25th anniversary of seminal Berlin club Tresor on 7th May, headlined by Juan Atkins and Moritz Von Oswald’s pioneering live show Borderland, supported by techno duo Zenker Brothers, Jonas Kopp and Claudia Anderson. When Tresor opened on March 13th 1991 in a small shack on Potsdamer Platz, few would suspect this unassuming space would give rise to a clubbing institution that would one day celebrate 25 years of existence. Over the past quarter of a century, Tresor has played a part in so many significant moments in Berlin’s musical history. From Jeff Mills’ first three turntable set, to the Tresor Park parties, to various infamous chapters of Sven Väth’s Loveparade, Tresor has become intrinsically tied to the explosion of techno culture in its home city. Juan Atkins and Moritz Von Oswald’s contribution to the development of techno also cannot be overstated. Between these two, the Detroit-Berlin axis was formed, a twin city partnership that holds a profound influence on the form and function of modern electronic music. Juan Atkins, along with schoolmates Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May, formed the Belleville Three in the 1980s and laid techno's foundation; a decade later, Moritz Von Oswald partnered with Mark Ernestus as Basic Channel, the duo whose deep, shadowy compositions wrote the blueprint for dub techno. Together, they are Borderland, a live project which focuses on the loose, jazzy end of the duo’s musical palette. Launched in 2013 with a self-titled album on Tresor, they’re the perfect headliners to celebrate 25 years of a techno institution. They’re joined by nu-skool techno favourites Zenker Brothers. Dario and Marco Zenker’s roots in German club culture run deep. Their aunt, Dorle, was one of the figures behind revered Munich club Ultraschall, the first of its kind in the city. Having secured a residency at Harry Klein in 2006 - widely considered Ultraschall’s spiritual successor - the brothers founded Ilian Tape, a label that’s come to represent the apex of modern techno music. Since 2007, Ilian Tape has released records from the likes of Leonel Castillo, Stenny and Jichael Mackson, but in truth its the brothers’ releases, both together and solo, that have shone brightest. Renowned for the range and depth of their record bags, on 7th May the Zenker Brothers will air the heavy, percussive end of their musical repertoire. Also on the bill, Argentinian via Berlin Jonas Kopp. Like Borderland and Zenker Brothers, Kopp has a close affiliation with Tresor. He’s released two EPs and a full-length album on the label arm of the Berlin club, as well as deeply-respected records for the likes of Esperanza, Stroboscopic Artefacts and the Zenkers' Ilian Tape. An adroit and multifaceted performer, Kopp is equally renowned for three turntable DJs sets and all-analog live sets that set a dizzying course through all tempos and temperaments. Hotly-tipped new Tresor signing Claudia Anderson rounds out the lineup. With a debut EP lined up on Tresor later this year, Claudia is the ideal artist to get the 25th anniversary celebrations started on May 7th. --- Juan Atkins & Moritz von Oswald present Borderland Live Zenker Brothers Jonas Kopp Claudia Anderson --- Tickets also available from Oval Space: po.st/OSM0705OS This event is 18+, ID required Admission to Oval Space is at management's sole discretion, pre-purchased tickets do not guarantee entry.
