Industry of Machines presents: Polar Inertia, Chemotex, Davide Gualandi, Mirror 1

  • Industry of Machines presents: Polar Inertia LIVE (DEMENT3D || Paris) Chemotex HYBRID DJ/LIVE(The Trilogy Tapes || NYC) Davide Gualandi (Lost Soul Enterprises || NYC) Mirror 1 US DEBUT ( Inkblots | Out-Er || Berlin) Countdown to deep freeze: winter may have mostly missed New York this year, but this March the polar wind is coming to Bossa Nova Civic Club for a second NYC appearance. Industry of Machines is very pleased to announce the return of Parisian techno force of nature Polar Inertia, currently taking Europe by storm. He is joined in a rare appearance by Chemotex, the EBM/industrial techno alias of a well-known NYC local, exclusively released on The Trilogy Tapes. These two rare appearances should be enough to send chills, but with Lost Soul Enterprises & L.I.E.S.' Davide Gualandi and Inkblots label head Mirror 1 opening, subzero temperatures are assured. A blurry techno entity from Paris, Polar Inertia is a mystery duo whose series of four records on Paris' avant garde DEMENT3D label have already attained legendary underground status, with prices to match. Alongside Antigone, Polar Inertia is easily the artiest of the recent French outcroppings, a chilling, fog-saturated collision of icy techno and dense ambient music whose sound certainly recalls the bleak themes presented in their forbidding work. Their most recent and most ambitious release featured a 42 minute ambient masterpiece, 'Can We See Well Enough to Move On?', a clear indication of both their own and DEMENT3D's ambitions past simply functional techno. Live, Polar Inertia is equally unforgiving but aimed at the floor, a brooding mass of Basic Channel depth and Planetary Assault Systems intensity that takes no prisoners. Following their wildly successful debut at Bossa Nova Civic Club in winter 2014, they return to the scene of the crime to wreak more havoc. A not-so-secret side project of storied New Yorker Marcos Cabral, fittingly for its home on The Trilogy Tapes he reserves his harshest work for his Chemotex alias. Many were surprised with the new leaf Cabral turned over with his early L.I.E.S. appearances, but the tracks were also tailored to meet the off-the-cuff, dirty vibe of the label, with explosive results for the artist's career. Chemotex represents both a hardening and a crystallization of that aesthetic, as well as an exploration into the realms of hypnotic techno, industrial music, and EBM that was only hinted at in the L.I.E.S. material but fits perfectly with the operating mode of TTT. Chemotex sets are extraordinarily rare and we know of only one to-date, but to stand next to Polar Inertia we asked Marcos to bring his most astringent styles for a special occasion of unusual intensity. Appearing on the local radar from a grimy podcast for LIES, Davide Gualandi is an experienced Italian DJ whose abilities and selections have since earned him a growing place on the local circuit. Specializing in the more gruesome, twisted sides of electronic music, particularly noise, blown-out acid, and hard techno, initiates might find it takes some getting used to, but for the opening slot IofM had to be sure the DJ was up to the task of building suffiecient psychological intensity to slide into Polar Inertia's ferocious sets. We're not the only ones who agree about Davide; recently named a resident of IofM favorite Lost Soul Enterprises, his style is a fitting match for one of New York's most interesting and outward-bound parties. The co-head of the buzzy Inkblots label with Haiku since 2014, Mirror 1 first appeared in 2013 with a release on the Out Er label, home to figures like Terrence Dixon, Orlando Voorn, Lucretio & Marieu aka The Analogue Cops, and other renown names. Three releases in, Inkblots has hosted Stanislav Tolkachev, Go Hiyama, Mike Parker, Developer, and others, making a quick entry on the checklists of devotees of harder techno. This company says quite a lot about Mirror 1's sound, which is deep and abstract in the current style of Berlin but also hard, agressive, and well-thought through, with room for excursions into more experimental territory as needed. Making his US debut appearance at Bossa Nova for Industry of Machines, we look forward to hear what this talent will bring now and in the future.
