On 26th March, London collective Dark & Lovely joins Ovation in The Pickle Factory, headlined by Big Strick, and supported by Brassfoot, NY*AK and Thris Tian.
Big Strick is one of the most talented DJs to emerge from the American midwest in the past decade. Deeply influenced by the sounds of his hometown Detroit - from Jeff Mills to J Dilla, P-Funk to his cousin and mentor Omar S - Strick’s work in the studio, both solo and with his son Generation Next, has seduced dancers and critics worldwide with its blend of staccato rhythms and soulful romance. Big Strick has only played once in the UK before, but his reputation as a premier Detroitian DJ long precedes him, from gigs at European institutions such as Berghain, Concrete and Stattbad.
He’s joined by Brassfoot, the latest addition to the Apron Records stable. Like label owner Funkineven, Londoner Brassfoot plots a musical path through oddball disco, soulful house and dark, distorted acid workouts. His Space Invaders and Apron EPs for Funkineven’s label explored a cornucopia of 4/4 sounds, rhythms and textures, while his most recent release for Unknown To The Unknown added classic breakbeat sounds into its broad musical palette. Also on the lineup, Technicolour and Ninja Tune signing NY*AK, who’s brand of rich, sexy house music is perfectly suited to The Pickle Factory’s intimate setting.
Dark & Lovely founder Thris Tian rounds out the bill. Rising to prominence as the original music programmer of Boiler Room, as well as being a frequent collaborator with Gilles Peterson and host on his Worldwide FM, Thris has since taken the Dark & Lovely sound around the world, from Asia to Australia, South Africa, Berlin and back again. Borne from Thris and Blackfoot Phoenix's weekly NTS Radio show of the same name, Dark & Lovely is, alongside its tropical sister Global Roots, one of London's most respected foundries of sophisticated soulful music.
