Pittman is a true original. He has collaborated with virtually everyone worth their salt in contemporary Detroit. First coming to prominence with a bunch of Theo Parrish co-productions on his Sound Signature label, further releases on Omar S’s FXHE label and his own Unirhythm imprint have quickly become modern classics, cementing his virtuous reputation. Rooted in the Motor City’s tradition of downbeat house and uptempo soul music, the man plays all across the board, sounding like Ken Collier and The Electrifyin’ Mojo meeting up – not in an elevator – but behind the turntables. To paraphrase one of Pittman’s most expressive moments: “Come See” for yourself.
While his solo release schedule is relatively relaxed (and the quality control high), Pittman has plenty of other ventures on the go; he’s a member of the Three Chairs production team that also numbers icons Kenny Dixon Jr (Moodymann), Rick Wilhite & Theo Parrish, has collaborated with Parrish and Omar-S as the T.O.M. Project and is part of the sprawling Rotating Assembly collective.
Ask virtually anyone that's been to a party with Marcellus Pittman at the helm and they'll tell you his sets are nothing short of incredible. A true master on the platters that matter, Pittman is a DJ that will leave a long lasting impression on your soul for years to come.
