For part three of our ten year anniversary, BlkMarket Membership invites once of dance music’s biggest stars for his first-ever appearance alongside residents Taimur + Fahad. To anyone who follows electronic music, Maceo Plex has been a ubiquitous presence since he released his debut album on Crosstown Rebels in 2011. Eric Estornel’s backstory goes back much farther and include surprising twists however. Well known under his techno alias Maetrik which recorded for Cocoon, Triebstoff, Dumb Unit, and many others beginning in 2003, he traces his origins back to Dallas in the late ‘90s. His electro and IDM releases as Mariel Ito earned him early recognition by the now-legendary Modern Love label as well as respect from legendary Dallas producer Gerard Hanson, best known as Convextion and E.R.P. Estornel only slowly discovered his more dancefloor-leaning tendencies, spending over a decade in the underground before finally unveiling his first Maceo Plex material in 2009. In the process, he has risen to become one of the largest names in the scene, founding his Ellum Audio label in 2011, the name a nod to his Dallas roots, and moving his base of operations to Spain to better serve his busy schedule in Europe and Ibiza. 2016 finds fans awaiting his forthcoming second album, Solar, and marks the launch of his first true residency in Ibiza, Mosaic, which aims to expand the music horizons on the island past the limitations that have become de rigueur in recent years. It also marks his first-ever appearance in New York’s underground after repeated sets at various clubs around the city, and an unusual opportunity to see a figure who has lived on all sides of the dance music spectrum return to his roots, exclusively for Blkmarket Membersip’s ten year celebrations.
