Charging into its 16th year, the springfestival for electronic art & music takes place in the stunning city of Graz, Austria. Between May 25th and 29th, 2016it takes over many iconic architectural delights, along with clubs, live spaces, outdoor locations and warehouse environments – sound-tracked by some of the world’s leading electronic live acts and DJs.
Visitors from all over Europe will enjoy a 5 days 4 nights nonstop, inspiring union of music, art, design, technology and urban savoir-vivre in the heart of the UNESCO City of Design and European Capital Of Culture 2003.
The Festival – 16th Edition
2001 the springfestival was born. First, a small bash for freaks and friends, nerds and connoisseurs of electronic music, it soon grew to be one of the club cultural hotspots in Austria – and in Central Europe. A legacy that is now taken to the next level. After the relaunch 2015 the festival grows again to be the largest festival of its kind in its hosting country.
The springfestival for electronic art & music turns Graz into one comprehensive creative space. A dome carved into a mountain, a former factory hall enhanced by solid wood and concrete for perfect acoustics, an outdoor venue merging seamlessly with the city park and a former brick-walled garage are amongst the amazing venues hosting cutting-edge artists, promising newcomers, worldwide idols and local heroes.
Most of the venues are located within walking distance of the city center. A strong local scene is up until today the backbone for this unique event. Each spring, native artists mingle with international producers, remixers, players, musicians, singers and DJs who captivate the visitors with their wide spectrum of mind-bending performances. Over and over again the festival pushes artistic boundaries and the art of DJing. The festival is to be found at the intersection of top-notch electronic art and spirit-lifting euphoria.
In its 16 years of existence, the springfestival hosted acts like Gossip, The Streets, Roisin Murphy, Grandmaster Flash, Mark Ronson, Diplo, Carl Craig, Chilly Gonzales, Ben Klock, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Laurent Garnier, Caribou, Coldcut – just to name a few highly recognizable ones. Well known or not, a long list of mind-bending acts have always enlightened festival-goers with their vision of the perfect soundtrack to the perfect party.
By now Graz has become after Vienna the most important hub for pop and club culture in Austria. This development has gone hand in hand with the steady grow th of the springfestival itself. It always has been nourished by its urban and cultural surroundings. And it´s not limited to just the official venues: museums, cultural institutes, bars, restaurants, parks and public spaces will also be part of the 5 days 4 nights nonstop festival experience. The whole city becomes in the end of May the vibrant instrument the festival is virtuously played on.
