Powering into part two of our 10th anniversary celebrations, Blkmarket Membership announces two long-awaited returns alongside hometown heroes. Returning to BlkMarket for the first time since 2012, Scuba early on achieved legendary status from the influential early dubstep releases of his Hotflush imprint, many of which became celebrated classics of the genre. By 2010 the label had moved with the times, re-focusing its sound on techno; its influential Sub:Stance residency at Berghain continued until 2013 and made two appearances in NYC for Blkmarket, steadily evolving into post-dubstep bass mutations. 2015 saw Scuba return with a vengeance, his ‘Claustrophobia’ album and accompanying all-star remixes reaffirming his position in contemporary techno. We’re happy to welcome him back to help celebrate a decade of Blkmarket Membership in this context, his previous appearances for us having already passed into legend.
Unseen in New York since Dub War in 2010, Shackleton has transformed from one of the most unique voices in dubstep to one of electronic music’s most unique voices, without parallel. Announced by his 2009 Perlon album, the closure of Skull Disco in 2010, and the founding of Woe to the Septic Heart! the same year, the second phase of his career abandoned genre entirely to forge new shapes in dance music. Taking diverse tempos centered around techno while keeping the circling drums, bass blasts, and tribal darkness, since 2010 he has achieved a universality and acclaim with few rßivals in any area while continuing to cut new paths. His first NYC appearance in over 5 years is a 90 minute extended live set, not to be missed for any appreciators of innovation in electronics.
Joining them is Anthony Parasole, a name familiar to New York and now a resident of Berlin’s fabled Berghain. Parasole spent years focusing on house in NYC’s underground promoting, DJing, and running his Deconstruct Music label, before shifting gears towards techno and founding The Corner imprint in 2012. His Berghain residency has been extremely well-received and shaped his own musical direction, leading to releases on Dettman’s MDR imprint and Ostgut Ton and consolidating his position as an in-demand DJ worldwide. Following up an extremely successful appearance alongside Len Faki for Blkmarket Membership this winter, we look forward to hearing Anthony apply pressure again in his hometown. Joined by residents Taimur + Fahad, we welcome all fans of true techno to celebrate a decade of Blkmarket Membership’s influence in NYC.
