Staging her fifth album Hopelessness in an immersive, sense-shifting performance, Vivid LIVE will be Australian audiences only opportunity to experience this ground-breaking new chapter in one of New York’s most singular musical voices of the 21st Century.
Revered for her past work I Am A Bird Now, The Crying Light and Swanlights, ANOHNI’s new release is a collaboration with Hudson Mohawke (TNGHT, Kanye West) and Warp’s Oneohtrix Point Never with room-shuddering effect. HOPELESSNESS; self-described as ‘an electronic record with some sharp teeth’ - is a dance soundtrack with soulful vocals and direct lyrics addressing the surveillance of individuals, the drone war and ecocide.
Drawing comparisons to Radiohead's artistic call-to-arms in Kid A, the enigmatic Sydney favourite is set to enter a lineage of protest classics since releasing the world-warning new single '4 Degrees'. Featuring plenty of brass breaks, soul-enveloping surges of synth, orchestra strings and thunderous percussion to deliver this cautionary tale.
Now presenting one of her most ambitious performances yet, ANOHNI’s Hopelessness will explore anthemic song-writing, dance physicality, and audio-visual appearance in the intimate surrounds of the Joan Sutherland Theatre at Vivid LIVE.
