  • So much love to everyone who came to our first London party and made it so fun, such a pleasure to see the dancefloor full all night. Apologies to anyone who got hit by a banana, we got a bit carried away throwing them around. You'll be (hopefully) glad to know we're back on 6th May - joined this time by production & DJ duo UMOJA, who will take us on a cross-continental journey from Africa to South America and back again - a blend of highlife, afrobeat, soukous, cumbia, batucada, jazz, disco and soul with house, kwaito, bass and global electronic sounds. Support comes from CDR HQ and NTS Radio affiliate Naise, along with residents Cervo and JVC. The sunshine duo from the rainy Netherlands, Umoja, is an organic evolution between two humble groove aficionados whose paths crossed over half a decade ago. They are dedicated to combine electronic productions with a perfect understanding of global rhythms. Their music presents an expression of their love for experimentation with African, South American and outernational traditions. Umoja also functions as curator and initiator of the record labels Piri Piri & INI Movement. Their first release was "Je ka lo!", released in 2012 on INI Movement. Since back then, they have been putting out top quality music, always combining different genres and cultures. This voyage has taken the duo to gain support from great artists such as Sam Redmore, Feel My Bicep (Gilles Peterson WW set), Anthony Valadez, Jeremy Sole, iZem, Alma Negra, Batida, Funky Bompa, MPS Pilot and many more. They also have worked closely with organizations of international reputation like Akwaaba music and Sound & Collors magazine. Throughout the top productions and remixes, Umoja has delivered several musical treasures such as Bilongo Con Sandunga, Mo Fiya!, Danzi! (their latest release on Piri Piri) and La Piragua which have conquered the taste of followers from all over the planet. They are joined by CDR affiliate Naise - we caught her amazing set on the beach at Dimensions and have been jamming her NTS shows for the last few months, so can't wait to host her at BH. --- Banana Hill began in Sheffield, filling the city's warehouses with sounds of the global underground. It expanded to Manchester last year to clubs such as Soup Kitchen & Hidden, showcasing music & artists from around the world. Expect afrobeat, jazz, kwaito, disco, house, neo-soul, techno, kuduro, hip hop, footwork, cumbia and lots more. Previous guests include Gilles Peterson, Andrés, Quantic, Move D, Tama Sumo, Culoe De Song, Awesome Tapes From Africa, Cooly G, DJ Marfox, Lone, Spoek Mathambo, Nozinja, Optimo, Auntie Flo, Romare, Throwing Shade, Lakuti, Seven Davis Jr, FOKN Bois, Marcellus Pittman, Batida, Andrew Ashong & lots more. "Absolute pleasure - great, great party!" - Gilles Peterson "One of the few true genre-spanning parties in the UK" - The Guardian
