Over the past three years, Golden Teacher have positioned themselves on the long line of live disco bands through history (think Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, Arthur Russell) who can blow the socks off their audiences with a 10 foot high walls of sound.
Forming a key strand of Glasgow’s Optimo group, they are a crew of percussionists, guitarists, singers, dancers, and party freaks who manage to squeeze all manner of sounds into their productions: licks of acid, shades of dub, disco grooves and housey thumps.
This sort of density can only follow from a keen interest in record collecting, which is why we’ve invited them down to take over the FSN turntables for a night. They played live in our basement last year, and we can’t wait to welcome them back and get the floor moving.
In support, we have Leeds’ own Bambooman playing live, whose exotic hip-hop and intriguing broken beats will lead perfectly into what should be a wacky set of tracks from Golden Teacher.
