- On Friday, April 22nd we are going back to smangtasia. Sublimate is proud to present DJs FunkinEven and GE-OLOGY for an unforgettable night of house music. Rounding out the bill are local Bushwick favorites Soul 2 Seoul and, of course, Sagotsky. Don’t forget to RSVP to [email protected] for location details. As always we will feature an affordable bar and killer sound system by SubBass. Funkineven (Steven Julien) is no stranger to groove. Over the past few years, the London native has grown to become one of the UK's finest electronic musicians; a skilled and soulful technician whether perched behind a pair of decks or a sequencer. Born and raised in West London with Grenadian blood, his first rhythmical dabblings came as a dancer. Beginning as an MC and beatmaker, he quickly found his feet moulding smooth cuts of his own. Artists from A Tribe Called Quest through to Jaco Pastorius became regular reference points and those early jams nestled somewhere between house, soul, boogie and techno. Steven released his debut EP with Eglo Records back in 2009, which ushered in a more mature chapter. Two years later, he founded Apron Records; an incubator for music-makers putting together honest electronic music like Greg Beato and Shanti Celeste. Baltimore born, GE-OLOGY has roots in NYC dating back to the 80’s. A former member of the “I Love Vinyl” DJ collective, he has been spinning since the age of 11 and collecting records for almost four decades. Well known for rocking dance floors from Europe to Asia and beyond, he digs deep in his heavy vinyl collection, weaving diverse music genres that coalesce to inspire soulful movement on the dance floor. No slouch as a producer either, recently dropping the Moon Circuitry 12” on Theo Parrish's SOUND SIGNATURE with an LP to soon follow.
