On 13th May, The Pickle Factory hosts the album launch of Space Dimension Controller’s Orange Melamine LP, featuring an All Night Long performance from the man himself.
Space Dimension Controller is one of the most unique and vital talents to emerge in electronic music over the past decade. Since he first appeared in our galaxy seven years ago, Jack Hamill has composed a series of records on R&S Records and Royal Oak widely considered among the most important releases of the 21st century. From the interplanetary romance of ‘Love Quadrant’ to the brash Drexciyan electro of last year’s ‘Galactic Insurgent’, Space Dimension Controller makes 4/4 music imbued with wit and personality, as well as musicality and groove. Live and as a DJ, Hamill is an adroit performer, equally capable of playing classic 4/4 sounds, his own material, and devilish pop curveballs. On 13th May, Hamill debuts in The Pickle Factory to launch his Orange Melamine LP, featuring live projections from visual artist Jacob Chabeaux.
In 2008, at the tender age of 18, Space Dimension Controller made his first album in his bedroom in Belfast. Orange Melamine is that album, a lovingly produced and deeply personal collection of tracks that lace supernatural sounds and translucent synths with a sense of overflowing harmony. It will be released via Ninja Tune on 27th May 2016. Washed in reverb and draped in hiss, the album draws influence from the old VHS tapes handed down to SDC from his older brother, as well as artists like Boards of Canada, Brian Eno and William Basinski. In its content and cover art - beautifully composed by Chabeaux - Orange Melamine is also steeped in references from 80’s and 90’s sci-fi: The Guyver, Short Circuit and Ghostbusters through to The Fifth Element, Escape from New York and Power Rangers. Intricate, futuristic, enjoyable without sacrificing its inherent strangeness; that Orange Melamine triumphs without compromise is testament to a distinctly creative musical mind.
