- On Friday, May 13th we present another stacked lineup welcoming back deejays Jane Fitz, Jenifa Mayanja, and Dakini9 for what promises to be an incredibly special night. We are excited to see what fire these three longtime friends will spit behind the decks. Jane Fitz is packing heat from the UK, a longtime resident of Freerotation and no slouch at throwing her own event: Night Moves in London. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you should recognize Jenifa Mayanja and Dakini9 as some of New York’s top house music talent. Together they run Sound Warriors, a quality imprint with a mission statement to showcase top female producers. Rounding out the bill are our residents Turtle Bugg & Sagotsky. Ugandan born Jenifa Mayanja has been part of the underground deep house music scene in New York since the early 90s. She began her career as a record buyer for the now defunct Dancetracks. Her ability to captivate dancefloors with her heady selections was quickly made apparent. Jenifa currently runs the Sound Warriors imprint with Dakini9, which focuses on showcasing top female producers. In the past, Jenifa was poised to branch out with her own event in NYC – Bumako. Her underground parties featured ‘private spaces’ and through their success, her label Bumako Recordings was born. Now Jenifa plays top gigs all around the world and her productions garner serious critical acclaim. We could not be more excited to have her play a proper underground on her home turf. Dakini9 aka Lola Rephann has been a part of NYC's underground music culture for well over 10 years. By day she is a teacher and student of yoga, by night a killer DJ and producer. Dakini9’s sound is a touch of dark with heaps of deepness. She runs Plan B Recordings with DJ Spider and Sound Warrior Recordings with Jenifa Mayanja. Lola's DJ style is predominantly house and techno, but her range is wide, reflecting her time in 90s NYC club-land.
