On 24th June, The Pickle Factory hosts the first UK showcase of Vera and Alexandra’s label Melliflow, with new Perlon signing Spacetravel, who will also make his London debut.
Melliflow is the lovingly curated label and party of revered DJs Vera and Alexandra. Melliflow’s founders go back a long way: since 2014, Alexandra and Vera have thrown intimate parties in Berlin’s famed Club Der Visionaere, inviting a host of the city’s finest DJs such as Binh, Laurine and Evan Baggs. On 24th June, The Pickle Factory presents Melliflow’s first UK showcase, which will also serve as a release party for the label’s debut EP, Spacetravel’s ‘Time To Wake Up’.
Vera has been on our radar since opening in October. No one mixes house and techno quite like her: elegant, technically flawless, with every one of her timeless records deployed just at the right time and place. When Vera DJs, you might hear shuffling minimal mixed into acid house, or electro into dub techno, but always bridged by subtle, speedy transitions that never sound rushed or disjointed. Together with friend Maayan Nidam, she also performs as Mara Trax, and as a producer has released on Hello? Repeat, Assemble Music and Cargo Edition; but it’s when manning a pair of turntables solo that Vera is particularly special. A regular guest at the world’s finest clubs - Fabric and Panorama Bar, Rex Club toandRobert Johnson - Vera’s understated, perfectly-formed aesthetic is ideally suited to The Pickle Factory’s intimate setting.
She’s joined by Spacetravel, a producer soon to become a household name in the underground scene. It’s rare that a newcomer enjoys such a meteoric rise as Spacetravel: since his Galactic EP dropped on Time Passages last year, the Italian has enjoyed gigs at CDV and Hoppetosse; joined the Melliflow crew; and most famously, been cherrypicked by legendary Berlin label Perlon, with whom he's releasing a full length LP. That Spacetravel has been signed by Perlon less than a year into his production career cannot be overstated: Zip, Markus Nikolai and Chris Rehberger are famously reticent to add new blood to their label. But Spacetravel is something special - a nu-skool superstar in the making.
Fellow Melliflow founder Alexandra rounds out the bill. The Romanian is most often associated with Sunwaves, that Mecca of minimalism where Alexandra cut her teeth as a budding young DJ. Now Sunwaves’ most celebrated resident, and a deeply-respected touring DJ based in Bucharest, Alexandra’s tasteful selections and affable presence make her the ideal lady to warm the floor on June 24th.
