Deep Space: Francois K., Subatomic Sound System with Screechy Dan

  • Deep Space is thrilled to celebrate the release of of the new Lee "Scratch" Perry and Subatomic Sound System single "Black Ark Vampires" with Subatomic Sound System and Screechy Dan on the mic. For over a decade and a half Emch has been the producer, DJ/selector, and musician spearheading NYC's Subatomic Sound System and the Subatomic Sound label. Subatomic Sound System connects the reggae roots of dub and the future of electronic bass music using a unique configurations of live instruments and electronics that five years back led Jamaica's dub pioneer Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry to make Subatomic his go-to band for reinventing his Black Ark studio sound. At that same time, Emch founded Dub Champions Festival in NYC with the goal of exposing the legacy and influence of dub through performances and education events by both originators and new school dub revolutionaries. Dub Champions Festival has expanded like wild fire to Europe and across the entire USA creating a chitlin circuit style network of dub artists and promoters across the globe. As evidence of the movement, Lee Scratch Perry & Subatomic Sound System just completed a three week, almost entirely sold out tour as part of the 2015 festival, performing Perry's classic "Super Ape" album for the first time ever live, one of one of the crowning achievements of dub and reggae produced and by Scratch in Jamaica in 1976. Subatomic Sound System has toured throughout North America, Europe, Russia and Asia. In 2007, Emch was recruited by top ranking Viennese live dub band, Dubblestandart, to play guitar and melodica on their Planet Dub tour which led to producing the first dubstep mixes for Perry. Subatomic Sound System productions, remixes, and releases include a wide spectrum of established icons like Lee Perry, David Lynch, Elephant Man, Anthony B, U-Roy, and Ari Up of the Slits as well as next-generation torch bearers and pioneers like Jahdan Blakkamoore, Dubblestandart, Stereotyp, Frikstailers, Dub Gabriel, and many more. The Subatomic Sound label releases on digital and vinyl with the most recent being "NYC-2-Africa-2-Brasil" mixing up dub, dancehall, African and Brasilian percussion; and a new single with Perry called "Black Ark Vampires". Emch also works as a radio host for Brooklyn Radio and KEXP's Radio New York broadcasts, label manager for Kingston-based People’s Records JA, Dubspot music instructor, and event promoter -- essentially at work on every level in NYC and beyond, supporting the legacy of dub and forwarding the global community. www.SubatomicSound.com www.facebook.com/SubatomicSoundSystem www.Twitter.com/SubatomicSound www.soundcloud.com/subatomicsound www.youtube.com/subatomicsound SCREECHY DAN BIO: "Out Of One Comes Many," a slogan that best signifies the metamorphosis of style, creativity, depth and manifestation of a true talent, none other than, Screechy Dan. A veteran artist that has mastered the craft of versatility in entertainment, Screechy Dan, born Robert Stephens has been performing since childhood in Kingston, Jamaica and upon his migration to Brooklyn, NY, he hit the ground running... In 1992, Screechy joined forces with the Ruff Entry Crew which included the hottest set of artists coming out of Brooklyn, such as Redd Foxx, Bajja Jedd, Mr. Easy, Naturally, Nyke Fungus, Rayvon and Grammy Award winner, Shaggy. With their collective talent under Signet Record Label, the Ruff Entry Crew put New York City dancehall artists on the map. During this era, Screechy release two hit singles, "Goonie Goo-Goo" and "Lonesome Blues." "Lonesome Blues" placed his mark on dancehall reggae as the first artist to yodel over a reggae track. After a few other popular releases, he then collaborated with Redd Foxx performing "Pose Off " a song that instantly topped the reggae charts and board them on tours performing around the world, sharing the same stage with artists like Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, TLC, Gang Starr, and many others. "Pose Off" went on to become a big hit in the reggae music industry. Due to that success, he was signed to a major record deal with Polygram Records. In 1994, Screechy wrote and performed a song, produced by Bobby Konders for the soundtrack of the hit movie, "Sugar Hill", starring Wesley Snipes. By the debut of his album, "The Mission" in 1996, he once again worked with Bobby Konders and several major producers, such as Steely & Clevie and Sting International amongst others. He would be nominated for numerous awards that year as top ranking reggae vocalist. Screechy would go on to venture into other genres of music collaborating with Masters at Work on their hit "Give it to Me". In 2002, he was featured on "Gangsta Life Goes On", a hip-hop/reggae track produced by BCAT FAM and distributed by Orpheus Music/EMI Distribution. Following that project, while working on his album with Artical One Productions, he pre-released, "Swell" a single that was followed by the video. Screechy's track "One Love" with Artical One Productions was also featured on #1 soca compilation "Couldnt Believe" alongside top soca artists such as Bunji Garlin, Benjai & Gailann, Super P, and Ziggy Ranking. To this day Screechy maintains his status as a cutting edge artist in NYC. His recent single with Redd Foxx was picked by legendary BBC reggae DJ David Rodigan as hot track of the week April 2016. He recently has toured with Lee "Scratch" Perry & Subatomic Sound System and has a new single "Champion Sound" forthcoming with Subatomic Sound. Popular hip-hop artists like Foxy Brown and Benzino reference Screechy by name and use similes from his #1 selling hit, Pose Off in their lyrics. A skilled artist such as Screechy can only continue to shine brightly because of his creativity and versatility. Filled with energy and love for all types of music, his versatility and energetic performance will keep him in the hearts of fans as NYCs #1 Dancehall Entertainer. He will always leave audiences yearning for more, and will continue to win the love of many. Out of one comes many, Screechy Dan.
