Oval Space Music presents a special day and night of soulful electronic music on 2nd July, with Levon Vincent, Tama Sumo, Hieroglyphic Being, Trevor Jackson, Lakuti and Volcov.
Levon Vincent is one of the most revered figures in house and techno. The New Yorker has long mastered all the disciplines of dance music: a legendary producer, deeply skilled DJ, and founder of Novel Sound and Deconstruct Music, two seminal labels in modern electronics. Having released his eponymous debut LP last year, Vincent is an artist at the peak of his powers, one who is long overdue an Oval Space debut. He’s joined by Panorama Bar’s finest, Tama Sumo. Few residents share the principles of their home club quite like Tama Sumo - in her purist approach, her devotion to the DJing craft, and her warm, affable presence. One of queer dance culture’s most important figures and deepest diggers, Kerstin will play twice across day and night. Chicago techno auteur Hieroglyphic Being will also play Oval Space on 2nd July, bringing his vaunted live set to Bethnal Green for the very first time. The Mathematics boss specialises in a brand of wild, celestial electronics, deeply imbued with his own enigmatic personality.
Dance music chameleon Trevor Jackson will also join us on July 2nd. Jackson has been at the forefront of UK audio and visual culture for nearly 30 years, during which the Londoner has designed iconic record sleeves, produced classic house, disco and breaks records, overseen acclaimed compilations and run the influential label Output Recordings. He’s joined by Lakuti, in what will be her third appearance in Bethnal Green, and first time she has curated a lineup at Oval Space. Lakuti’s labels Uzuri and Süd Electronic are a constant source of expertly-made electronics from producers old and new; while her party at Panorama Bar with partner Tama Sumo is the most adventurous Friday night on the club’s calendar. Italian DJ, collector and rare groove aficionado Volcov rounds out the lineup. Although he’s only risen to prominence over the past few years, Volcov has been deeply involved in dance music since the 1980s: first running drum ’n’ bass imprint Sonica, then promoting a regular clubnight in Milan, before founding Italian house label Neroli in 2001. One of the most bold and eclectic selectors in dance music, he’s the perfect DJ to set Oval Space’s terrace on fire on July 2nd.
