On 9th July, Ovation hosts a night of raw electronics at The Pickle Factory, with a live set from Benjamin Damage and DJ performance from Randomer, supported by new Hessle Audio signing Ploy and a live performance from Yaws.
No one typified 50WEAPONS’ genre-bending aesthetic quite like Benjamin Damage. The Welsh-born Berliner was there since 50WEAPONS’ very beginning, and his evolution through techno since has been vividly documented by a series of records on Modeselektor’s now sadly defunct label. Across seven EPs and two full-length albums, Damage has mastered it all: sleek, ruthless techno of an Ostgut persuasion, lush, euphoric ambient soundscapes, and fidgety ‘90s IDM throwbacks are all well within the Welshman’s broad repertoire. In our Official Farewell to 50WEAPONS in December, no artist impressed like Benjamin Damage. Playing live that night, his technical wizardry, diverse discography and warm presence stood out even in impressive company. On 9th July, he returns to Bethnal Green in the altogether more intimate surrounds of The Pickle Factory, for another vaunted live performance.
He’s joined by North Londoner Randomer, one of the most prolific producers of the past decade. Few have a recent back catalogue as rich and diverse as Randomer. His discography reads like a who’s who of modern techno: across a six year career, he’s produced four EPs for Untold’s Hemlock Recordings; released records for Hessle Audio, Numbers and Clone; and most recently, been cherrypicked by Ron Morelli’s famous L.I.E.S for two releases, and a lo-fi workout on its sublabel Russian Torrent Versions. As a DJ, Randomer is one of the UK’s finest, capable of effortlessly stitching together modern bass with classic techno and dub, along with less esoteric 4/4 rhythms. They're supported by Ploy - the latest from the Hessle Audio production line - and a live performance from hotly-tipped Londoner Yaws.
