Sepalcure Live with DJ Earl and Dave Q

  • SEPALCURE With their new album 'Folding Time' about to drop on May 20, we've invited production duo Sepalcure to Good Room for a live show. Sepalcure’s combination of love for bass and 90s house acapellas is the culmination of a cathartic collaboration between Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Praveen & Benoît). The boys are known for their mix of tribal dub, house and two step beats works equally well for both late nights in the club and rainy, introspective nights at home. Detroit techno chords cut through wooden beats, neon synths and dubbed out atmospherics. Following on from their first self-titled LP in 2011, Folding Time, is their second album, to be released on Scuba's Hotflush Recordings, is made up of new material along with some revisited archival cuts. "It felt like we were connecting the present with the past," the duo say. "Going through each session was like digging through old memories." Several of the tracks feature vocals, along with field recordings, guitars and piano, the result of spontaneous, in-person sessions. DJ EARL DJ Earl entered the musical world in 2005 by means of dance battles. He participates local parties in rollerskating rinks, building up his unfailing knowledge of this culture. In 2008 he meet DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad — a sudden trigger that led him to produce his own footwork tracks and join the Ghetto Teknitianz beside Spinn, Rashad, Traxman and many others soon thereafter. DJ Earl represents the new generation of Chicago’s sound, between jazz and funk tunes, devilish synthesizers, unstructured hip hop samples, heavy sub basses and mesmerizing snares. With releases on prestigious record labels such as Hyperdub & Planet Mu and appearances at Boiler Room & Fabric London there's no telling what's in store for the future. DAVE Q Dave Q founded the seminal New York club night Dub War in 2005 (America's first dubstep party), and has continued to lead the charge for bass music in all forms in New York City. Named Top NY Resident DJ by Red Bull in 2013, he has been an early advocate of the hybrid of footwork, drum n bass, and dubstep in his recent sets. Dave is responsible for having brought artists including Kode 9, Mala, Loefah, Skream, Actress, Shackleton, and Ramadanman all for their debut North American shows. His DJ sets explore bass music's evolution into new tempos and textures. Dave is one of the few American DJ's to have played London's legendary DMZ club night, and is regularly found on the bills of New York's most influential bass music events.
