The New Media Art and Sound Summit (NMASS) is a four-day festival of creative music, performance art, film, and installations presented by Austin’s Church of the Friendly Ghost (COTFG) collective. NMASS is the annual cornerstone event of COTFG’s year-round programming, which supports an international underground counterculture across the spectrum of adventurous sound, film, and performance art. In a town known more for mega-fests like SXSW and Austin City Limits, NMASS resists the idea of a crowd-sourced, corporate-backed festival by curating a heterogenous collection of artists united only by their adventurous spirit.
2016 marks the eighth anniversary of the festival and its final year in its longtime home at Salvage Vanguard Theater on Manor Road before the space is vacated due to rising rents in the increasingly popular Cherrywood neighborhood in north central Austin.
