  • Night Owl is back in Stereo on Friday 17th June! The decks will be in the talented hands of Nick Peacock (of Soul Jazz Sundays & Buff Club) and Claire Hyslop (Burnt Toast, Black Coffee R&B) for the evening! Claire Hyslop has been a music lover and a hopeless vinyl junkie since her early teens when she harboured dreams of writing for the NME and regularly handed over the wages from her Saturday job to Barnstorm Records (a brick and mortar record shop still trading to this day). Claire has been a resident DJ at Friday Night at the Parlour in Leith since 2012 where she plays Garage, Soul, 50s and 60s R&B and a whole load of Popcorn and titty shakers ‘all at the wrong speed.’ The highlight of her DJ career so far has been playing records at a Tommy Hunt live show and Tommy signing her copy of 'Work Song.’ Claire loves supporting live bands and has played shows with The Thanes, The Collectors and The New Picadillys. Inspired by the tunes and vibe of Basics, The Hideaway, Le Beat Bespoke, For Dancers Only and Friday Street, Claire recently started an R&B night ‘Burnt Toast Black Coffee R&B’ in Glasgow with her pal and fellow vinyl-addict Tom Gillespie, so expect a peppering of Rhythm & Blues in her soul sets at Night Owl. Claire's favourites spins change like the weather but right this very second they are: Little Jimmy Ray - You Need To Fall In Love (Gallant) Milt Grayson - Wayfarin' Stranger (Derby) Mavis Rivers - Footsteps of a Fool (Reprise) Night Owl had the pleasure of hosting Nick Peacock at the Berkeley Suite last July and we are very excited to have him back! Nick had this to say to us: “I was really impressed by the welcome shown to me at the last Night Owl when I shared the decks with Jamo Kidd. A friendly, enthusiastic crowd who were willing to follow my lead and were more concerned with dancing than staring at the label of the 45's, it's amazing to think that that it was last July. Since then Soul Jazz Sundays have been going from strength to strength, giving me the opportunity to play some rare jazz and Latin as well as northern and r n b. and I can still be found every Sat upstairs in the Buff Club.” Nick’s top three current records are: Earl Gains – It’s Worth Anything (HBR) Dave Hamilton - Pisces Pace (TCB) Tony Middleton & Bobby Matos - Return to Spanish Harlem (Speed)
