Meakusma Festival Day 3

  • From September 23 to 25, meakusma will for the first time organize a festival. The line-up features some of the most interesting and groundbreaking artists working in contemporary experimental and club music today. Effectively curating five stages in the Alter Schlachthof in Eupen over the course of the weekend, next to music there will be installations and lectures, fusing and confusing day and night, acknowledging the lasting relevance and fierce sense of experimentation still running through underground electronic and experimental music today. The festival also acknowledges the greater region and Eupen's place in the heart of it, drawing upon the longstanding and extremely productive creative history of neighboring cities in Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands. Eupen's rural surroundings will serve as a comfortable setting to this intention. Entrance prices have been kept deliberately moderate and the general comfort of the audience is a prime concern with short distances between the various stages and an often intimate set-up. Furthermore, there are "early bird" tickets available till the end of May. For the line-up, meakusma has decided to invite such organizations as the Berlin-based Wax Treatment, the Cologne-centered ReiheM, Dublab Radio, the Ostbelgienfestival and the Goethe Institut to effectively function as co-curators. The already legendary party concept Wax Treatment will be presenting a guest showcase on Saturday, featuring their storied Killasan sound system. The German branch of Dublab Radio will host a floor, broadcasting live with interviews, live performances and DJ sets almost nonstop. ReiheM organizes concerts in Cologne focusing on new and experimental music. They will present a showcase of some of the most prolific artists linked to their organization. Together with the OstbelgienFestival we are happy to present a wide selection of classical, electro acoustic and new music. The Goethe Institut has played a crucial part in many events we have organized in the past. Now again they contribute ideas and concepts. The festival also foresees accommodation. There is a limited amount of free camping available right next to the festival venue. We work together with the local youth hostel to be able to offer affordable rooms. Other than that there are many more hotels and camping sites in Eupen and around. All hotels and camping sites are comfortable and often sport beautiful surroundings. Unheard melodies are sweeter still.
