Mukanda is named after a rite of passage practiced by an African tribe, Ndembu. Like the initiates, Vico left its tribe, its home – the old town – to go deep into the forest: the forest of modernity. It’s time for our Mukanda, our “revelation”: this festival needs to be an opportunity for reflections, for tests to grow up and, finally, to go back home, living back the old town centre, the abandoned places, the non-places.
It’s the young man reclaiming his old town!
