Red Bull Music Academy Weekender is set to make its South African debut this year, with Johannesburg playing host to the four-day festival. The weekender will start off in a rub-a-dub style with Jozi’s own African Storm Sound System featuring Admiral and JahSeed, alongside a fine cast of special guests on Thursday.
Braamfontein and New Town’s cultural melting pot of music, fashion, culture and style is the perfect playground for Friday night as the Weekender moves to legendary venues And Club, Kitchener’s, Carfaxx and Great Dane. A power lineup of Thebe, Felix Laband, Beat Sampras, Niskerone vs Hyphen and many more will drop beats, bass, techno and everything in between until the early hours.
Saturday will see New Zealand’s finest Fat Freddy’s Drop taking their kiwi soul, jazzy dub and rootsy funk to 1Fox, supported by AKA and Nigeria’s Patoranking, as well as South African Academy alumni Jullian Gomes, Thibo Tazz, Trancemicsoul and Sebastiano Zanasi (as part of Christian Tiger School), amongst others.
For the festive finish we set up an all-dayer at Zone 6, starting on Sunday at 3pm with the likes of King Bruce and Oskido, before house heavywheights Culoe de Song, Black Coffee, Mafia Boys and Riky Rick take over the decks until late into the night.
