Futra presents Op-Art with DJs Aaron Davis, Knyphy & Warren Nelson

  • L'illusion est le premier plaisir / Illusion is the first of all pleasures -- Voltaire On Saturday, August 13th, FUTRA reveals OP ART, a one-day multimedia event presenting work from over 30 visual artists, performers, and musicians at Civic Center Studios, a beautiful 8,000 sq-ft studio with views overlooking DTLA. Optical Art plays with the perception of our physical reality, delving into illusions that seep out of hypnotic geometries, immersive experiences, and confounding alterations of space and time. It disrupts the dialogue between the mind and body, while exposing the hyper-reality of our veiled digital age. DJs Aaron Davis, Knyphy, Warren Nelson, and Zøraya will provide a kinetic soundscape to complement a curated exhibition of contemporary artists and visionaries showcasing works in mixed media, sculpture, painting, photography, fashion, and graphic arts. A choreographed video and dance performance In/Between/Time by mtDNA Dance will take place at 9:30pm, followed by the musical experiment Future Choir by Future Eyes at 10pm. The Future Choir will reinterpret the experience of looking through a crystal into sound, by exploring time signatures and layering techniques to create sonic landscapes resembling a crystal’s prismatic architecture. Entry for this multimedia event is $5 at the door from 7pm – 9pm and $10 after. The event is 21+ with a full cash bar. OP ART FASHION is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.
