Mikeq + L-Vis 1990 + Teki Latex + Rushmore

  • MikeQ is an American Artist and is one of the leading figures of the US’s long-running (but still largely underground) ballroom/vogue-house culture. Based in New Jersey, the 29 year old producer is not only one of the busiest and in demand DJs due to his spine-snapping sets, he also heads up his own “Qween Beat” Label and turns out a steady stream of vogue and ballroom tracks, re-edits, and remixes. Nearly everyone in the underground has heard the name Teki Latex at one point or another for different reasons. From his position as co-founder of A&R of influential labels Institubes and Sound Pellegrino to his countless vocal collaborations with heroes Modeselektor, Eero Johannes, L-Vis 1990, Para One and many more. But since the creation of club-focused label Sound Pellegrino in 2009, multi-faceted Pop culture Overlord Teki Latex has been focusing on something he has always felt very passionately about: becoming the best DJ he can. It’s hard to expect how a Teki Latex DJ set is going to turn out. A profound respect for the slow-burning grooves of Techno and House is palpable, but so is a fascination for the broken rhythms of IDM, Grime, the UK garage and sound system genealogies as well as many incarnations of american club music. As L-Vis 1990, James Connolly has been releasing a singular brand of club music free of rules and genres since dropping his eponymous debut EP in 2008. Yes, we understand if you’re sceptical—everyone claims to be a rule-breaker these days. But try putting into words the music on his and Bok Bok’s inimitable Night Slugs label or any of his tracks and remixes over the past few years and it should quickly become apparent that L-Vis 1990 has been doing things just a little bit differently. Rushmore AKA Matt Thomas has been guarding the frontline of London’s underground club scene with proven success since 2011 through his club nights Rhythm Talk and House Of Trax with co boss Fools, and heading up his label, Trax Couture. He has a strict penchant for US ghetto club music, which comes across firmly in his dj sets and own production, where he expresses his musical side with character and flair. His stripped back, effective approach to club music sees him give a different point of view on the dance floor by experimenting with merging styles covering ballroom, grime, footwork, ghetto house and techno.
